MAVERICK
Mirage 18 HPX
Maverick Boat Company markets the Mirage18 HPX as a “ great crossover poling skiff and backcountry boat .” Key features include lock-down dry storage , vacuum-infused carbon body with Kevlar laminate , and a 30-gallon center livewell / release well for large baitfish or tournament redfish that need weighing . The 18 HPX is the most recent member of the Maverick HPX family , which includes a 15-footer and a stack of 17-footers .
The 18 HXP utilizes the same hull design that made the 17 HPX famous , but with its proportions expanded to 18 ’ 4 ” x 6 ’ 8 ”. The longer length means its open-water capability is improved , as it spans chop and provides a dryer , softer ride . The wider beam means the boat is far more stable . Put these together and the combination provides excellent characteristics capable of handling more power , covering more range , and reaching higher speeds . For example , 150 horses pushes it over 62 mph , yet it still stealthily poles in only nine inches of water .
Maverick ’ s main intent was to create a technical skiff that also doubles as a big-water boat for live baiting . Essentially a tournament boat , that ’ s very fast and can cover a lot of water in a short amount of time . The added beam also makes space for multiple anglers to fish off the same deck . The 28-gallon livewell is located on the centerline and utilizes a recessed drain system that allows water height adjustment and evacuates water at all levels in the well . Perfect for large pinfish
