Iota Kappa Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau Award
The Sigma Theta Tau Undergraduate Award is given to an undergraduate student who demonstrates academic excellence and evidence of professional leadership as assessed by faculty in diverse practice settings .
Recipients : Abigail Lamnin and Samantha Kenyon
Abigail Lamnin Bachelor of Science in Nursing
Abigail Lamnin is graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree . She exemplifies the leadership values of Sigma and has remained committed to academic excellence . She maintains a high GPA while tutoring courses such as medicalsurgical nursing , volunteering in the nursing simulation lab , and helping to reinforce clinical skills as a peer mentor in the nursing skills lab .
Additionally , under Dr . Amoia-Watters , Abby collaborated with her peers to research the implications of caregiver stress to provide valuable knowledge for caregivers – who serve some of the world ’ s most vulnerable populations – at the Mustard Seed Communities in Jamaica . The group also presented their research at the Eastern Nursing Research Society ’ s 33rd Annual Scientific Session and Gwynedd Mercy University ’ s annual University Research Conference .
In addition to her scholarly dedications , Abby demonstrates a passion for community involvement , leadership , and professional development both on and off-campus . She is a member of GMercyU ’ s American Association of University Women ( AAUW ), Pride Alliance , and the Student Nurses ’ Association of Pennsylvania ( SNAP ). She has also attended the AAUW ’ s National Conference for College Women Student Leaders and GMercyU Leadership Conference .
Outside of GMercyU , she volunteers as a Crisis Counselor for the National Crisis Text Line , provides dignifying care as a Private Caregiver for older adults , and works as a Nurse Extern at Paoli Hospital , where she plans to join the team as a Nurse Resident with a drive to provide contextualized and other-focused nursing care . Abby draws most of her motivation from her role as a mom ; her toddler ’ s curiosity , tolerance , and relational love consistently illuminate the power of embracing humanity , diversity , and a desire to learn .
