Frank Curran is an outstanding student whose achievements have earned him two prestigious awards this year : the Dorothy Zeiser Endowed Award for Excellence in Mathematics and the Sister Ann Donigan / SCIBUS Award .
Frank transferred to GMercyU in 2018 after receiving an associate degree in liberal arts at Montgomery County Community College . His growth , both academic and personal , has been noteworthy . As a mathematics major seeking secondary education certification , he has excelled in advanced courses such as Linear Algebra and Multivariable Calculus . While working toward his degree , he balanced a job and his studies , maintaining high grades and earning Mathematics Program Honors . His achievement led to his induction into Sigma Zeta National Honor Society .
Frank also excelled in his secondary education courses , with faculty noting his ability to meet his students ’ needs and to engage students through technology . During Frank ’ s student-teaching placement in the Springfield Township School District , his cooperating teacher highlighted Frank ’ s ability to “ ensure student success .” He went on to applaud Frank ’ s use of in-person and virtual techniques for instruction in the classroom . Moreover , his college peers recognized that Frank was diligent and always optimistic . With his strong mathematical skills and his joy for teaching , Frank Curran will be an asset to math instruction .
Ethics in Science , Technology , Engineering and Mathematics ( E-STEM ) A program funded by the National Science Foundation ( NSF )
The E-STEM Program provides scholarships to academically talented students studying biology , computer science , or mathematics . Recipients participate in a comprehensive curricular and co-curricular learning community to foster success . Following in the Mercy tradition , this program emphasizes awareness of ethical issues in the disciplines and development of an ethical framework needed to make a positive impact in STEM fields .
