Outstanding Undergraduate Student
The Alumni Award for Outstanding Undergraduate Student is awarded to a student who has demonstrated a commitment to Gwynedd Mercy University and its Mercy Mission , as well as distinguished themselves in one or more of the following areas : academics , athletics , service , and / or leadership .
Recipient : Jordan Abelson Bachelor of Science in Biology
Jordan Abelson could be classified as one of the most active and energetic undergraduates on campus . She is preparing to graduate from the E-STEM Honors Program with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and minors in Chemistry and Communications .
During her tenure on campus , Jordan has served as a peer mentor since her sophomore year ; sought out research opportunities and participated in the Student Association of Science , to enhance her education . She was also active in the Take Back the Night movement ; served as secretary in the Sigma Phi Sigma National Mercy Honor Society ; chair of the new Mercy Monarch Butterfly Garden project on campus ; and was the founder of the American Association of University Women on campus . Jordan was GMercyU ’ s first vlogger , assisting the Marketing and Biology departments in social media ; was a member of the coalition for campus civic engagement committee ; was a member of the Griffin Student Leadership Institute ; and , also participated on the student / faculty diversity council , with the goal of bringing equity , diversity and inclusion to campus .
Following graduation , in addition to remaining active with GMercyU ’ s Graduates Of The Last Decade young alumni group , Jordan will attend Brown University to pursue a master ’ s degree in Public Health , focusing on health disparities in minorities , particularly in women ’ s health .
Jordan has truly made the GMercyU campus community a better place and is the epitome of a Distinctive Mercy Graduate .
