T he D orothy Z eiser A ward for E xcellence in M athematics
The Dorothy Zeiser Endowed Award for Excellence in Mathematics honors
Professor Emerita of Mathematics, Dorothy Zeiser, who served as a respected
faculty member, advisor, and colleague at Gwynedd Mercy University for 29
years. This award is given by the faculty to a graduating senior with outstanding
achievement in mathematics.
Recipient: Heather Clark
Bachelor of Science in Mathematics
Heather Clark transferred to Gwynedd
Mercy University in 2003. One year later,
having already earned teaching credentials,
she had an opportunity to accept a full-
time position at Gwynedd Mercy Academy
and left GMercyU (then College) before
completing her degree in mathematics.
In Fall 2018, although still teaching full-
time and serving as the high school’s
swimming coach, Heather returned to
GMercyU and has excelled as a student in
her upper-level mathematics and physics courses. Known for asking especially
insightful questions during class, she has also played the role of peer mentor to
other math majors.
One faculty member noted that Heather “is compassionate, hard-working, and
truly cares about her subject and [about] helping others.” Heather plans to
continue to help middle and high school students with math and SAT support
because she has a passion for “teaching others to appreciate and enjoy math.”
There is no doubt among all who know her that Heather will continue to be an
inspiring teacher.
