time worrying about it. This is perhaps a negative trait in me, and can cause me to
spend less time studying than I should, but I generally hold the belief that what is
meant to happen will happen, therefore I shouldn’t stress about those kinds of things.
There are times, however, where I have stress from academics or a busy schedule,
and my reactions are similar to my sisters’ in those cases.
My sadness in college also seems to be cyclical; constantly shifting from times
of happiness and well-being to times of stress and sadness. This seems to be more
based on my perception of the world, but one factor of these cyclical emotions could
be related to when college exams tend to roll around.
Based on three different experiences in college, it is difficult to claim that col-
lege is a direct cause of sadness. It is more accurate to claim that college creates sit-
uations and stress that can lead to an increase in sadness. Different effects of col-
lege seem to work more or less depending on your personality or how long you have
been in college. On the whole though, it seems that college has had an impact on
sadness in all three of us.
