only some classes, granted – to do coursework at my own pace. Furthermore, I talked about
how adults like to look back on all of the partying they did in college. This is still true, as well,
and is another thing that doesn’t bring sadness to students. According to my father, college
was the best couple years of his life. Of course, my father isn’t exactly the best example for
following society’s education standards, as he was kicked out of the University of Michigan
only to go back a semester later and drop out another semester later, but he still makes a good
point that the partying is something that makes for a good distraction from the sadness caused
by classes and money. Although it’s hard to be happy when a person has too much homework
and not enough time, but it’s also hard to be sad when they’re given the opportunity to go to
parties multiple times during a semester. Lastly, I said that adults like to think about how col-
lege gave them the foundation for their successful lives, which is also true. Doing well in col-
lege doesn’t always mean that a person will succeed in life, and not doing well doesn’t always
mean that a person won’t succeed in life, but just the idea that I’m going to succeed in life be-
cause I’m in college is good for happiness and makes for a good reason to keep pushing
through the work.
Overall, I think it’s important that society recognizes the positive and negative emo-
tions related to college education. By doing so, this will allow students to realize that being
sad is okay, and that it’s not okay for society to put so much pressure on them. Even further, it
will allow society to eventually change their ways and recognize the way in which education’s
importance is harmful to students. College isn’t all too bad, and I probably will become an
adult that only likes to remember college fondly as everyone else does but, for now, it’s im-
portant that I retain at least some of the sad thoughts from college so that I, along with the rest
of the current students, am able to help future students with how they perceive college and
everything that comes with it.
