Honors College Art & Science of Emotions Fall 2017 (1:20 p.m.) Sadness Journal | Page 3

A Letter from the Editors: As most people know, sadness is one of the emotions that we are encouraged not to feel. Because of this, many individuals are unsure of how to deal with the emotion, and push it away in favor of a more positive and accepted emotion. Society does not typically allow individuals to learn and experience the emotion in an everyday setting, and this journal has been created to shine a light on the “banned emotion,” and show how it affects individuals in their everyday life, especially around the holidays, which are notori- ously expected to be joyful. This journal includes essays created to show how holidays are not always as joyful as society makes them out to be, how sadness can be positive, how individuals are medicating to eliminate the emotion, and how college students experience sadness. We encourage you to understand how sadness is a crucial part in everyone’s life, and to under- stand that even though it is seen as a negative, unknown emotion, it is also a vital emotion that can be posi- tive. We hope this journal brings some of these feelings to the forefront of your mind, and allows you to open up to a previously foreign emotion. Sincerely, The Editors Mason Cothran- Editor in Chief Adrianna Jurek- Assistant Editor Megan Richards- Acquisitions Editor Michael Prestininzi- Designer Jacob Marczewski- Designer Kenton Sosnoski- Proofreader 3.
