The New Tales of Old Shanghai
Victoria Shanghai Academy, Peng, Sunny - 11
The sun shone brightly
Penetrating my eyes
Over the streets of Shanghai.
After a wearying day
I was finally free to let my mind stray...
Out of the blue,
A ray of light smacked me in the eyes like a chopstick;
I gasped.
Carefully I stepped towards the radiance,
And what happened next was craziness.
I was inside a kaleidoscope
Everything around me was black and white.
Nothing looked out of place,
But I knew there was something wrong,
I hoped that this was all a dream that went on for too long.
Dragons soar through the sky
Jade pond waves with carp fish;
Rickshaws clatter over the bumpy streets.
Chanting comes from ancient smoky temples,
Everything is so cordial.
“If this is a dream I never want to wake up.”
Keeping this vision in my heart
With me always
How does a world from the past
Stay in my mind and last?
“I never want to leave Old Shanghai because it is enchanting.”
