GBA is located in Southern China. It contains 9 municipalities and 2 administrative regions, Hong Kong
and Macau. GBA has over 71 million people in only 56,000 square miles, which is still not 1 percent of
China’s land.
Facts: Although it is small, it has more people than Canada and the UK! It has more business activities
than some other countries. It is 12 percent of China’s economy.
After reading the facts, let’s go back. Many readers ask, “When did the GBA plan start?” That’s a good
question. In 2015, the Chief Executives of HK and Macau signed the GBA plan, and it has started from
that day.

Now, we are in the GBA’s main city, Hong Kong. HK was once a small fishing village, but then it grew up

And here’s Macau, a Portuguese colony from the 16 th century until the late 20 th century. Macau is famous
for its heritage and casinos. Moreover, Macau only has a population of not more than 1 million, which
makes it the city with the smallest population in GBA. On the other hand, Macau’s economy is growing
rapidly. Also, Macau has a new light rail for the visitors and local people to travel around conveniently.
Facts: Macau’s Venetian Macao Casino is the largest casino in the world, with more than 800 gambling
tables and thousands of gambling machines. Furthermore, it is the largest building in Asia.

Now, I will introduce Guangzhou to you. Guangzhou has the most people in GBA. Guangzhou has many
metro lines, the Guangzhou Metro Company has also started building the Guangzhou-Foshan line, which
will connect the two cities together, and the construction is still on its way. Guangzhou has a Changlong
entertainment park, just like Zhuhai Changlong. Some readers may ask, “Why there are two Changlong
entertainment parks?” Excellent question. Actually Guangzhou’s Changlong is just a copy of Zhuhai’s.
GBA’s contributions to the world
The GBA actually helped China’s economy a lot, including itself. Because the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao
Bridge are to meet the demand of passengers and freight land transport among Hong Kong, the Mainland
and Macao, plus to enhance the economic and continuous development of the three places. And the GBA
can serve as a springboard for China’s ongoing internationalisation.
