Enjoy Convenient Transportation in the
Greater Bay Area

In February 2019, the State Council of China issued the outline of the Guangdong-Hongkong-Macau
Greater Bay Area development plan, which defines the strategic positioning of the Chinese government. It
will become a world-class city cluster, an international scientific and technological innovation center, an
important support for the ‘One Belt And One Road’, a demonstration zone for in-depth cooperation
between the Mainland, Hong Kong and Macao, and a high-quality living circle.
The Greater Bay Area is built under the conditions of one country, two systems, three customs zones
and three currencies, including many aspects of planning and construction, but I am most interested in the
construction of transportation. Because my cousin lives in Zhuhai, my aunt lives in Macao, my grandmother
lives in Zhongshan, and I live in Shenzhen, but I was born in Hong Kong. With convenient transportation,
my time to and from these cities will be greatly shortened, the transportation options are more extensive and
the journey is more comfortable. Getting to these cities is as convenient and fast as getting from one district
of Shenzhen to another today. The frequency of family reunion will be increased, it is a wonderful thing!
Transportation is the foundation of the construction of the Greater Bay Area. The transportation
construction targets of the Greater Bay Area, includes the one-hour intercity travel circle, world-class
airports, passenger and bus interconnections.
According to the statistics, by the end of 2018, the density of the expressway network in the Greater
Bay Area has reached 7.96 kilometres per 100 square kilometres, making it one of the densest areas in the
country. The density of the expressway network in the core area is higher than that in the three bay areas of
New York, Tokyo and London. An intercity railway network with Guangzhou as the core, running from
the north to the south and connecting the east and the west has basically taken shape. Hong Kong port,
Guangzhou port and Shenzhen port are the top ten container ports in the world. The passenger throughput
of civil aviation is 215 million, ranking first in the global bay area. In September 2008, the Guangzhou-
Shenzhen-Hong Kong high-speed railway was officially opened to traffic, marking that Hong Kong joined
the national high-speed railway network formally and entered a new era of high-speed railway. The
opening of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao bridge in October 2018 is of great significance to further
enhance the comprehensive competitiveness of the pearl river delta region and ensure the long-term
prosperity and stability of Hong Kong and Macao. With the construction of world-class airports on the fast
track and the coordinated development and comprehensive utilization of resources among the airports of
Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao, it will become an important aviation gateway for China's opening up
and an important aviation hub for the world.
In terms of daily travel, based on the construction of livable, industry-friendly and high-quality living
circle, port connection facilities and combined transport services in the Greater Bay Area will be integrated,
high-speed passenger ship routes between Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Hongkong, Macao and other cities will
become densely, and combined transport by sea, land and air will be more convenient. Greater Bay Area

live in an extremely convenient transportation network.
I'm honored to live in the Greater Bay Area. When I finish my studies and enter the society ten to
twenty years later, I will become an ordinary builder of the Greater Bay Area and a beneficiary of its reform
and development. Although ten to twenty years later, it seems that we still have some years to go, however,
with the rapid development of science and technology and the rapid development of the Greater Bay Area,
we may take a nap and wake up the next day to find that everything has changed. For example, the sharing
economy, mobile payment and Internet shopping are all things that we could not have imagined ten or
twenty years ago.
In the tide of development of the Greater Bay Area, we have to work harder to learn new skills today.
We can participate better in the construction of the Greater Bay Area in the future and we will be more
qualified to enjoy the carnival that brings to us by this flourishing era! Let’s witness the wireless possible
wonderful Greater Bay Area.
