Have you ever heard of GBA? The full title of GBA is Greater Bay Area. GBA is a co-operation
plan between Guangdong, Hong Kong, Macau, Zhuhai, e.t.c. This co-operation plan aims to combine first
class, second class and third class industry in the area. Why should we have this plan? Is it good for our
future? We should know that every place has their own advantages and weaknesses.
Hong Kong is good at providing trading services, raising capital for international companies; however,
Hong Kong is small, hence it does not have enough lands for its own first and second industry. In
Guangdong, there is more land for farming, light and heavy industry, but not enough capital to support their
commercial activities. Then, under the GBA plan, Hong Kong can help Guangdong raise capital to support
their development, and Guangdong can provide farming and industrial products to Hong Kong. So it can
be a win-win solution for everyone in the area.
What have we done for GBA in the future? All the effort can be classified into two major parts, the
hardware and software. For the hardware part, the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge is built to connect
these three places. Therefore, we can travel among these three places in a more convenient way. The
commercial efficiency can be boosted. The Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong High Speed Rail Hong
Kong section can give a better travel experience to the guest. For the software part, Hong Kong
government has signed the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) to reduce the trading
barrier between Hong Kong and mainland China.
We look forward to have more preparation for the further development of the Great Bay Area.
Someone may worry that the plan may not be good for Hong Kong. They think that Hong Kong will lose
its own advantages under this plan. However, Hong Kong should look for improvement, but not stand still.
