What an honour to be a judge for the 2020 Hong Kong Young Writer’s Awards. This year
did not disappoint as I was blown away by the talent! The theme, Future Adventures of
the Greater Bay Area, was difficult yet I was impressed by the way the authors rose to the
challenge. The shortlisted entries in Fiction Group 1 took me on a journey around the
Greater Bay Area, adding both social and imaginary dimensions. They were all beautifully
written and a fun read for both adults and children. Congratulations to you all!
And I am so sorry that the 2020 Awards ceremony will not be happening – it is one of my
favourite events of the year and beautifully organised by the Youth Literature Foundation.
I look forward to attending next year’s ceremony when all the winning authors will get their
moment in the spotlight
