The New Tales of Old Shanghai The Independent Schools Foundation Academy, Ng, Nicolas - 11 I was sat in my chair eating my Shanghai noodles, when I saw a strange Chinese man dash into an alley. He was wore a jacket which had the words dragon on it, I tried to peek at his face but I couldn’t see it. So I assumed he was any other person. I went back to my delicious noodles. BANG! The loud sound ringed inside my ears. It was a gunshot! I saw the creepy man run down the street. I ran down to the alley, leaving my noodles are the bench. There I saw a body on the ground, covered with blood, was a man, with a bullet straight through his head. I immediately called the police. I explained exactly what happened to the police. They said they would take me to the headquarters for a proper investigation. The chief came up and told me that they will hear me but that I still may be a suspect, so I had to put some handcuffs. They sat me in the middle of the car between two other officers, one carried a gun, the other had a bat. Through the window, I saw two other people being loaded into a car, probably witnesses too. It wasn’t a far drive, about 10 minutes. My house was only a ten-minute walk from here. As I arrived at the station, the officer beside got up, but three more came. They took me to the main information counter, ‘Sit, for now. We will call you when we are ready.’ An officer told me. I saw one witness being taken to a room. There was two guards in the room, one worked at the counter, another stood at the doorway, Both heavily armed. The handcuffs were heavy and bulky. I could not stop thinking about the hor ror I saw. After 30 minutes, an officer opened the integration room. He had the mark of a chief, So I trusted him. ‘Mr. Li?’ he looked at me ‘Yes, sir.’ I replied ‘Come with me, I want to talk to you. Can you be trusted without those?’ He looked at my handcuffs. ‘Yes Sir.’ He nodded to an officer and he took off my cuffs. I followed The chief into the room, he had a gun in his side pocket and some pepper spray in his belt. He told me to take a seat, and he did too. ‘I know what you saw was quite terrifying, can you tell me exactly what you saw?’ He asked. ‘I saw a man turning into the Tiger’s alley while I ate my noodles, he wore sunglasses and a black leather jacket which had the Chinese words, Dragon. Then I heard a bang, the man man ran away, I and two others came to see. There, I saw a dead man.’ I Answered.
