forest green eyes invading her dreams. Whether she welcomed or despised it, even she herself did not know. She only hoped tonight’s meeting would go without hindrance, and that she would return safely without anyone knowing of her little late night outing. The argent moon made its illuminating appearance in the dull black sky. In hurried steps, he wrapped his coat tightly around his torso and moved along the silent streets. He was carrying his body across the hushed northern town, but his heart had long since soared to where they would meet. He hoped she would not let him down. The cold was biting through the thin material of her cheongsam—in her haste, she had forgotten to put on an overcoat. This was the first time she had ever been out so late, so she gazed in amazement at the darkened buildings and the resting southern city. As she rounded the corner, she spotted who she had been looking for. Running as quickly as she could with her tight wear, she found herself in the warm embrace of the man with green eyes. She relished the cosy confinements of his arms and the tingles that danced across her skin, momentarily forgetting all taboos and conventions of her judgmental society. What he felt at the moment was almost indescribable—it was as if joy, excitement, hope and perhaps even love had joined forces in a flawless tango. Lying on her bed, the girl who dreamed broke to surface. She dreamed of her many meetings to come with him; She dreamed of one day abandoning this godforsaken arranged marriage; She dreamed of being able to love the man she wished to without restraint. She dreamed because in dreams, her hopeful desires overshadowed the dark malice of reality. Yet he was alone the following midnight, holding up his end of the promise while the other end shattered. He dared not risk exposing his identity at this hour of the night, choosing instead to wait until morning to investigate. How he wish he hadn’t.
