He leaned in close and snatched ‘The Seed’ from me, “Sorry, but treasures like this don’t belong in a museum.” With that, he let go. “Nooo!” I yelled as I fell. I caught one last glimpse of his evil smile. Then the bricks around me collapsed. The last thing I saw was a ray of sunlight from the hole above me. I hit the ground and darkness engulfed me. “He’s down here!” I heard someone exclaim. A bright light shone in my eyes. The world around me was spinning. I felt a pair of strong hands securing something around my back. I couldn’t make out any faces but heard muffled voices before I fainted again. The “Rescuer’s” Perspective After devoting my life looking for ‘The Seed’, I finally managed to snatch it from the fool who had stumbled upon it. Legend has it that the owner who cracks it open would not only find happiness, but he would also wield tremendous power. With great care, I pulled the sphere apart. Unexpectedly, a piece of yellow paper fell out. My heart was pumping fast as I held it in my shaking hands, ready to read out my fortune. On one side, the ancient calligraphy read “true happiness”. Puzzled, I turned it over. Instead of instructions, the writing here was simply “what goes around comes around”. What?! You have found “true happiness” - literally! There was no magic spell! 1917 Five years have passed since my “adventure” in the tunnel. The person who had claimed to be part of the rescue team turned out to be a bandit. The authorities caught up with him and he is now serving a life sentence for stealing a national treasure. As for me, apart from becoming famous for unearthing a relic, my family no longer lives in poverty as I am now a guide for the underground maze. While there may have not been an actual spell, there is certainly much truth in “what goes around comes around”. I decided to propagate this philosophy by telling my story and asking everyone to do good deeds. Indeed, I have attained “true happiness” as I can see people paying forward their kind deeds everywhere. ***THE END***
