‘Triads!’ we shouted in unison.
‘The crystal!’ they cried.
“Quick!’ Mr. Chen ordered. We flung open the window closest to us and hopped down what must have been a slide.
Seconds later, we found ourselves in an underground tunnel. But no matter how hard we tried, the Triad members were still
hot on our tails.
Before approaching a dead end, Mr. Chen calmly took out the Rainbow Crystal and brought it up high so it was in
everyone’s view, even the Triad members.
In a sudden twist of event, the gangsters stopped chasing us and even went down on their knees and begged us for our
forgiveness! It must have been the healing powers of the crystal! Mr. Chen used the crystal to out wit a whole gang of
meanies!
As we popped up at the sixth manhole, we found ourselves at the police station of the Bund. Without resistance, the
Triad members turned themselves in to the police.
The threat of the gangsters was over and Mr. Chen voluntarily returned the Rainbow Crystal. While on board the ship
sailing home, I looked over my shoulders and admired the lights of the hustle and bustle of Shanghai, taking in the smell and the
sound, recollecting my short but adventurous trip. Goodbye Shanghai, the city of incessant excitement.
