My Guardian Dragon Sha Tin College, Wong, Charmaine - 13 U pon arriving at his destination, Jianyu spotted an old cottage sitting by itself in the corner. Jianyu trotted to the front door. “Excuse me?”. He heard quick, heavy footsteps approaching the door. An old woman appeared. “I’m Rebeka, hello Jianyu.” she smiled. “How do you know my name?” Jianyu asked cautiously. Rebeka did not answer, she walked over the table and motioned for Jianyu to sit down. “I also know why you’re here.” she said. “You’re after the treasure aren’t you?”. Amazed and intimidated, Jianyu stuttered, “Yes.” Meanwhile, it was getting dark and Jianyu still wasn’t getting much answers. “I don’t understand.” he muttered with annoyance. Rebeka cackled but said nothing. “It’s getting late and I don’t have much time to lose.” Jianyu entered quietly, it was dark and cool inside. Jianyu suddenly felt an unnatural chill go down his spine as he took a couple more steps. “What is this place?” Jianyu muttered under his breath. He made his way down the dark, musty corridor and stopped to examine his surroundings. Jianyu took a few paces forward and found himself next to another gigantic door. When he prepared to enter, he noticed a sign beside the door. “Beware of what lies ahead of you.” He said outloud to himself. A bright glow started behind him , and as he turned around, Jianyu saw a beautiful purple lined with silver scaled dragon looking at him with intense eyes. Jianyu’s jaw dropped open as the creature said, “What are you doing here?”. Jianyu couldn’t speak. A few moments later, Jianyu managed to stutter, “Who are you?”. The dragon slithered closer and came nose to nose with him. Jianyu couldn’t speak as the beautiful creature circled him. Jianyu’s jaw dropped lower as it spoke. “I’m Amara.” the dragon murmured. “I can’t believe you’re real,” Jianyu breathed suddenly, “My parents told me stories about you when I was younger.” Amara looked at him with wisdom in her eyes and smiled, showing rows of sharp gleaming pearl-white teeth. “Come, we don’t have much time.” she hushed. “Let me warn you first.” she started, “What lies ahead mustn't be disturbed.” As Amara trailed behind him, he heard a low growl beside him. Amara’s deep ombre eyes flicked around, her snake-like body curled up tensely and the smell of sulphur wafted into Jianyu’s nose. A huge dog like creature emerged from the shadows, eyes glowing a crimson red as it advanced on its victims. He and Amara looked on nervously and pressed themselves against the wall. Amara whispered, “We must find a way to distract it.” Jianyu stood there frozen with fear, his mind blank. While the hellhound tried to corner the pair, he came up with a quick plan. “You fly above and distract it.” Amara gave him a look of approval, and added, “While I’m distracting it, run to that door and lock it.” “I’m not leaving you!” Jianyu exclaimed. “I can teleport.” Amara hissed. Amara and Jianyu set their plan into action. However, when Amara flew over, the hellhound was not distracted but only continued to advance towards Jianyu. Amara looked backed helplessly and threw herself at the monster, just as it was about to clamp its jaws around Jianyu. She curled her body around it and squeezed tightly, suffocating the beast. Finally, the hellhound grew limp, Amara uncurled and left the body, the smell of sulphur fading away. After the horrible experience, Jianyu and Amara raced away from the door and stopped at the next door ahead. Jianyu breathed slowly and hesitated. Amara stopped, and gave him a courageous look. The sign next to the door read, “If you managed to get through, don’t trust anyone but yourself in the next obstacle”. Amara slowly creaked open the door. At first, Jianyu couldn’t see anything, but he felt chills going down his spine. Amara looked nervous too, “It’s so silent.” “Have you realized we’ve been walking around in circles for the past fifteen minutes?” Jianyu asked. Amara looked around, and suddenly stopped, “There.” “What do you mean ‘there’?” Jianyu looked ahead with annoyance, then he saw it. There was another dragon, exactly like Amara, but bigger and with blueish-grey scales. The two stood in awe, gazing at the stranger. Amara gasped, “Silas?” Jianyu’s mouth was wide open as the mysterious dragon crept closer. Tears formed in her twinkling eyes as she glided toward him and put their heads together, twining their tails together. Silas glowed with happiness and hugged her tightly.
