ld Shanghai lasted for just over 100 years from 1843 to 1949. There were many foreigners living in Old
Shanghai. Some foreigners were French people, British and Americans. Some buildings built by the
foreigners could still be found in Shanghai now. Most of the people living in Old Shanghai were Chinese, but it
was not ruled by them. It was run by foreigners. The foreigners lived in their own world and they didn’t need to
talk to the Chinese. They thought they were better and more superior than the Chinese. The Chinese also live in
their own world.
