10 th May , 1973
After a rest , we started to move to inside . It was really strange that the tomb was not as big as I thought . We only found two tiny coffin chambers . One was the one where we rested at , and another one was opposite it . They are exactly the same . They only have three coffins on both side and nothing else .
When we were wondering what to do , Mr . Hu found some bricks on the wall , which moved . He removed one of the brick . Suddenly , a beam of sunshine lit up the chamber . We quickly removed all the bricks and made a big hole to fit through .
That ’ s the main chamber ! We had finally found it . It was enormous . There was an old tree in the middle of the chamber . It was very tall and there was some sunlight shining from the top of the tree . A thick layer of spider web covered the wall of the chamber . I knew these were toxic spiders .
We moved carefully to the tree , which was in the middle of the chamber … but we didn ’ t see any coffin . It was ridiculous . When dad and Mr . Hu were looking for the coffin , I indistinctly saw a person behind the tree . He was moving towards us totteringly .
“ Oh , Mr . Zhang , Mr . Hu , I am so glad to see you here !” Kono Kimio whispered . “ Are you surprised ? You thought you killed me but I am still here .” I remember his face – it was full of blood .
He continued , “ The pathway was so scary . It was full of toxic hair . So , I just use the bodies of my teammates to make a road for me .”
While he was talking , he took out his gun . Almost at the same time , the coffin emerged . It was in the tree hole .
All of us ran to the coffin . Dad and I arrived there , and Kono Kimio was not far behind . In crisis , Mr . Hu leapt at Kono Kimio and held him off briefly . While they were fighting , dad and I quickly opened the coffin and found the gallbladder in the mouth of the corpse .
When we went to find Mr . Hu , we found out he was captured by Kono Kimio . “ If you want him to survive , give the gallbladder to me ,” Kono Kimio threatened .
“ Go , destroy the gallbladder , don ’ t worry about me ,” Mr . Hu shouted .
Dad pulled me to the tree . I saw Mr . Hu push Kono Kimio to the wall . Millions of toxic spiders suddenly covered them . I heard their horrid screams . I wanted to help them but some spiders even started coming to us . We climbed the tree as quickly as we could . We managed to escape … just .
Dad burned the gallbladder and threw it into the tomb . After two seconds , it exploded . That was the first time I saw dad cry .
11 th May , 1973
We went home . The house was decorated with white . I felt something bad . I ran into the lobby . I saw a black-and-white portrait of my mum on the table . Underneath , that was the coffin with my mum inside .
The steward told me , the Japanese killed her just after we went to the expedition and left her body outside of our house .
