Future Adventure of the Greater Bay Area Ching Chung Hau Po Woon Primary School, Maia, Rivera Tala - 12 I live in one of the cities that are a part of the greater bay area, I live in Hong Kong. What is the Greater Bay Area, you may be asking? The Greater Bay Area is a plan of cities around China that include Macau, Hong Kong, Guangzhou and Shenzhen. Hong Kong, known worldwide as an international trading center, will be the Area’s international finance, navigation and trade center, as well as a transport hub. Macau will be an international tourism city and a platform for trade with Portuguese-speaking countries like Brazil. Guangzhou will take a leading role as an administrative hub while Shenzhen will expand its role as a leading special economic zone and tech hub. Guangdong is transforming itself from "the world's factory" into more of a high tech manufacturing base. Other cities in the region will also be involved, with the government already spending billions on massive infrastructure projects. My story will be about three friends who live in some of the cities mentioned above. And how their friendship and collaboration reflects the good that the future Bay area can bring. Edward is a financial analyst based in Hong Kong. He is the child of a mixed marriage between his Hong Kong father and a Filipino mother. He is the type of person who has always loved analyzing data, which come in handy for the job he does. Cindy has always had a very bubbly and charming personality, which makes her the ideal person for her job: a supervisor for one of the trendiest hotels in Macau. Andrew has been interested in tech even since they were still young friends. He hails from China, and works as an app developer based in Shenzhen. It is the morning of a very nice Saturday weekend. Edward has just finished a group mobile video chat with his friends Cindy and Andrew. They are all excited and happy about this day for they are all meeting up at Cindy's place of work in Macau. Andrew's purpose of the visit is to discuss the progress of the app he is developing for the hotel Cindy works in. He is quite excited with its development and he would like to have a chat with Cindy's boss to check if his project is going in the right direction. Aside from that, his work, though enjoyable to him, can be pretty hectic so he's looking forward to recharge over the weekend at Macau. Andrew then decides to make it a reunion with his childhood friends, so he called up Edward and invited him to tag along. Edward and Andrew have decided to take the bus to Macau via the Hong Kong – Zhu Hai – Macau bridge. Edward lives in one of the estates in Tung Chung and he has agreed to Andrew's suggestion to wait for him at the Citygate mall for Andrew also mentioned that he wants to do a bit of shopping too before going to Macau. it wouldn't be hard for Andrew to travel from Shenzhen to Hong Kong anyway because good to vary your vocab use, there's always the reliable high speed trains travelling between the two cities. Before long, the two friends are finally together at their appointed meeting place. They give each other a bear hug and, in no time, they have started talking about the funny and memorable moments they had when they were kids. They were doubly excited as it was both their first time to try the new bridge from Lantau to Macau. And they were doing it together! Just like the good old days of their youth.
