The Hamsters & the Greater Bay Bradbury School, Hui, Selwyn - 8 Once, not that long ago, there lived two hamsters. One was named Tom, and the other was named Lucinda. The little hamsters lived in an underground hole they named “The Secret Hole”. The hamsters were a happy couple but one day, the two wandered out of the underground hole and ran into a cage! A naughty boy named Kim found the hamsters in his cage and laid the hamsters into a basket. Then Kim’s mother walked in and Kim said, “Can I keep these hamsters?”. Kim’s mother said, “Fine, you can keep them and bring them to the Greater Bay Area trip.” The hamsters squeaked, knowing that the humans would be going there the very day. The hamsters wanted to escape without the humans seeing them but not now. Kim was keeping an eye on them. When Kim took the basket and everyone settled in the car, Tom and Lucinda fell asleep. The dreamt of victory, escaping the humans and being free. It all seemed so real… until they woke up to realize the car was going pass the amazing Parisian Hotel in Macau. The next thing the hamsters heard was this: let’s go to the restaurant! Later, the humans were nibbling away the famous Portuguese chicken rice at the restaurant. The hamsters got out of the basket, sneaked pass the humans, but some rice fell into their way. The hamsters could not resist Portuguese rice. “I simply MUST have some!” the hamsters thought. The hamsters ate the rice… but Kim scooped them up and put them into the basket, picked it up, then left with his mum. An hour later, the car was zooming through the busy streets of Hong Kong. Kim shouted, “Let’s go to ICC!”. Thirty minutes later, the humans were looking at all the scenery of Hong Kong in the Sky 100 at ICC. The hamsters got out of the basket, but Kim spotted them and put the hamsters back in the basket. Kim didn’t look away from the basket for the rest of the time they were in ICC. Three whole hours later, using the high-speed train the humans went to Shenzhen Futian Station. They found a taxi to go to the next location: The Industrial Museum. At the Industrial Museum, Kim and his mum looked at the main target of the museum “Shenzhen’s Thirty Years of Success”. The hamster Tom crept out of the basket and ran… until he realized he forgot Lucinda. When he came back to the basket to pick up Lucinda, the humans were leaving! The final stop was Shamian Island in Guangzhou. In Shamian Island, while Kim and his mum rested on a bench in Shamian Park, the hamsters got out the basket and ran to the nearest tree and hid. Kim and his family never saw them again. And guess WHAT? I’ll just conclude with happily ever after, because Tom and Lucinda dug another underground hole, had babies and explored to the outside world and trees whenever they like. And one day, they met a mole in a tree… but that’s another story that can wait to be told.
