The Greater Bay Area Korean International School, Zee, Kai Yu Yi Hao Eugene - 10 I’m Steve Rodriguez, 12 years old and this is the story of my first day at The Greater Bay Area. I woke up in a room where I recognized nothing. Nothing at all, mind you. There were no toys on the floor and the cabinet was full of clothes that I have never seen my mom bought me. I grabbed some random clothes and went out of my bedroom. The whole house was different, it felt like I entered a whole new world and suddenly it hit me. The new country, the government. I decided to go down and eat breakfast. “Mom!?”I yelled “Yes, son?” “Where are we? Dreamland?” “I guess you could say that... sigh, it's a long story but this should explain everything,” She said while hucking a magazine at my lap. I read the title “GRAND OPENING OF GREATER BAY AREA” I was speechless, we WERE at dreamland. I read on, with the convenience of China, the cheapness of Hong Kong and the luxury of Macau this new country is a legendary idea! Made from giant boulders and tough sand this design is built for years of endeavour!” I then slammed the magazine on the floor and went out the door. I couldn’t describe the environment! It was just like my home street with some MAJOR developments such as clean roads and a few parks that were so peculiar I couldn’t recognize what some of the equipment was! I smelt nothing really and the railings were freshly painted but dry. I was spellbound at the cleanliness and the people were ultra-friendly too. My mom then called me to go back home for lunch. I saw her cooking and GEE were the vegetables big. They were as big as a pumpkin and just looking at them being cut was impressive. So I asked, “Mom, why are the vegetables so big?” “Oh you see son the soil here has a lot of minerals and when farmers plant a seed the seed sucks up all the nutrient and grows enormous!!” “Another benefit? “Yes, true” She placed the food on the table and we sat down to eat. Not long after, my dad burst through the door with sweat across his face he says to us in a scared voice, “There is a typhoon coming, we haven't built a wall, the area is doomed! It's probably the biggest one yet! We only just noticed this afternoon, the greater bay area is not ready for this!” “Woah calm down dad,” I said, “the typhoon might not come!” “No, it is! Look!” he said while turning on the television. It showed a huge group of clouds gathering and forming a typhoon and heading toward the GBA. “We are not ready for this our city was just built and we have no defence against this typhoon. We have to build a typhoon wall so the wave wouldn't damage any housing” “When is the typhoon going to hit though?” “Today at 6:00, we don’t have much time unless everybody helps to build it.” “I’m in!” I said determined “If we’re helping society then count me!” said mom “Okay, you two are contributing we just need more,” Dad explained
