“ARGHHH “, stop being so selfish, “ NO, you have to share more, '' MOMMMMM”. “Both of you calm
down, please! “said mum. How often do you fight with your family? This family argues every second of every
day!
The Thompson family live in a small town called Helton, trust me when I say this family is not very popular.
They are a family of four; mum, dad, Claire, who is 12, and Mindy, who is 14. This story begins on a day like
any other day, until, the morning post arrives. They open a letter from ‘the government ‘telling them they have
one week to pack up everything and move. The letter says; Dear Thompsons, we regret to inform you that you
have to leave Helton and start a new life in Kutopia. Kind Regards, The Government. That’s all it said, no
explanation as to why or how they were supposed to do this. As you might expect the family was not thrilled at
all about this, but they felt they had no choice.
The next week they moved to Kutopia. When they arrived it seemed like a normal town, at first. Then they
were told the truth behind their move to Kutopia. The country was falling apart, physically, emotionally, well
actually on all levels. The government had gone looking for ways to help their failing country and someone had
suggested that they needed to find a family that had survived all its ups and downs and get their help. They
needed the Thompsons to save Kutopia.
Our country has been falling apart for decades but now it is on the edge of complete collapse. No one can agree
on anything and every time we sit down to discuss what we can do it turns into a huge fight. The Thompson
family all looked at each other, “so just like us”, said Claire. The only way to stop it falling apart and become
united again is to find three missing pieces from three separate countries and bring them together, we need to
find a way of helping everyone to work together. Dad chuckled, I wonder why you would choose us then, the
government smiled, “even though you are always fighting you never give up, that’s exactly why we chose you”.
‘“So, will you help us save Kutopia? The whole family smiled, “where do we begin”, they said. You must go to
China, Macau, and Hong Kong. You are looking for the most important elements of each country. Your first
destination is China, when you get there you must head to the ancient history museum and bring back the oldest
porcelain jar that still survives. From Macau you must find a lotus flower, you may not always be able to pick
these flowers so take a camera in the case. Finally from Hong Kong, you must bring back 3 bauhinias coins, we
will give you more information about each item when you get there.
The next day the Thompsons woke to a cloudy sky, they had travelled to China late last night and were now
ready to begin their quest. “I think I should be in charge today”, said Milly, “I am the oldest and I recently did a
school project on Ancient China, did you know that after every new Dynasty the Emperors would try to get rid
of everything from the previous one, so its quite rare to find ancient artefacts from before the last Dynasty”.
