The Adventure of the Greater Bay Area
Harrow International School Hong Kong, Ji, Brian - 12
“Arghhh, it’s burning today. I’m so thirsty.” I groaned. It was a sunny day. Lisa and I were walking along the
dockside. “But it’s a perfect day for a Geo field trip to the beach. Let’s go get some drink, Ethan,” said Lisa.
There was a vending machine on the corner of the pathway. Lisa and I drank a can of coke each. Holding the
empty can, I looked for a rubbish bin. The closest one I could find was miles away. I felt too lazy to go to the
bin, so just kicked the can into the sea. I kicked it as far as I could. At that moment, I lost balance and fell off the
sea wall into the sea!
“Arrrrrrrrrrrrhk!”
I sank deep into the sea. I couldn’t hold my breath for any longer. I was dying…!
After a few minutes, I opened my eyes. ‘Am I in heaven?’ Instead of angels, I could see beautiful angelfish
swimming around me. It was not heaven. I was still in the middle of the sea. And surprisingly, I was breathing! I
was still alive and felt like I was a fish. Happily, I swam and explored deep into the sea.
“Hi”
I heard someone’s voice behind me. There was a boy wearing a weird glittering outfit. His clothes looked like it
was made of cans. Cautiously, I talked to him.
“Who are you? Do you know me?”
“Oh, my name is Jacob. Are you new to the Greater Bay?”
he told me.
“The Greater Bay? What is it?”
I asked Jacob with curiosity.
“Hm, It seems that you don’t know anything about here. The Greater Bay is the magical underwater city. Come
on, follow me. I’ll tell you more about it in my house.”
Jacob swam down deeper toward the dark bottom of the sea. I became nervous.
“I thought your house was not this far..”
I was trembling.
“We live underwater of the Greater Bay. Here we are. Come on in,” said Jacob.
Jacob’s house was made of shiny cans. Actually, not only his house but all the houses and buildings in the city
were covered with aluminium cans!
I followed Jacob into his house. Inside, it pretty much looked like an ordinary house. We sat on the sofa and he
gave me hot cocoa in a can.
“Thank you. Everything in this world looks like a can.”
I told him.
“They are.”
He replied.
