A Whole New World Yew Chung International Primary School, Yang, Shaoya Sylvia - 8 It was a sunny morning in Hong Kong. I laid in bed thinking about what I should do today. My mother said that I could go to Ocean park that day if I wanted to, so I decided that I would ask my mum to take me to Ocean Park. I got out of her bed and decide to wear jeans and a t-shirt because I don’t think my exquisite dress was appropriate for this situation. I am still thinking about what a wonderful day it will be when I am brushing my perfect white teeth in front of my mirror. I finished brushing my teeth and went downstairs to find mum sitting on the table spreading blueberry jam on a piece of toast. “Good morning. I have decided that I would like to go to Ocean park.” I said, “Do you think you could take me there?” “Of course, Kimberly,” Mum replied with a smile, “only if you promise not to push me on rides!” “I promise!” I said with a sly grin, “Can I have some cornflakes? We can go after that...” “Sure,” Mum said while pouring milk into a bow decorated with picturesque sequins. On the trip, I was drinking Orange juice while looking out of the window. The sky was a brilliant blue with no clouds and the sun was a big yellow blob in the sky. I just kept on staring out of the window for the rest of the thirty-minute long journey. When we arrived at Ocean Park, I excitedly got out my annual pass and gave it to the man who is checking the tickets. My mom did the same as me and we went into the magnificent theme park. The first thing I thought of was Ice Cream so we both had a double scoop chocolate Ice Cream. After we finished, mum said, “Honey, could you just play on your own? I will be in the same place later. You can come and find me after two and a half hours. Have fun!” “That is fine by me,” I answered, “Bye!” After we said our goodbyes, I headed straight for the roller coasters’ area. I got a few good rides before I saw a girl with pigtails out of the corner of my eyes. I walked over to her and said, “Hi, my name is Kimberley. What is your name?” She hesitated, but still said shyly, “Megan” We paused for a second, and I said, “Nice to meet you, Megan. Should we play together?” “That is really nice of you, thanks,” said Megan, “Can we ride the Pirate ship?” “Of course!” I said genuinely, “Let’s go!” When we were walking, I learnt that she had come from Macau and she is ten years old. She came to Hong Kong because there is a new world so she doesn’t need a Visa. She also told me that she liked yellow. I told her I was ten years old and I live in Hong Kong for all my life. After we went on the Pirate ship, we wanted to go for lunch, so we headed towards a restaurant. It was very crowded there so we had to hold on to each other tightly in order to stay together. Suddenly, I felt a tug. When I turned around, Megan was gone. “She must be somewhere close,” I said, trying not to panic. Deep down, I knew this was Megan’s first visit to Ocean Park, so she must be lost and scared. My hands started to get sweaty and my breath was really quick. My heart pounded in my chest and I can hear nothing but the pounding of my heart. I weaved around the crowd, hoping things would change. I stood on a huge rock and took a deep breath. “Megan!” I shouted with all my might. There were people milling around but no Megan. She was gone. Timidly, I tried to find her through the crowd, but it was impossible because there were too many people. Suddenly, I remembered that her favourite colour was Yellow, so I went off to find any glimpse of Yellow I could find. My first thought was the restaurant we ate in because it has lots of Yellow. When I figured she wasn’t there, I thought about what we played. The first thing we played was the pirate ship. As my memories flooded back to me, I rushed to the Pirate ship. As I had expected, there was no one there. I looked around the whole place shouting her name. Just when I was about to turn back with depression, I saw a little girl jumping up and down waving to me on the other side of the Pirate ship. I found her.
