A Friend From the Greater Bay Area The Independent Schools Foundation Academy, Lent, Liam - 7 “Hello…” I was playing in my room when I heard a weird sound calling to me. I opened the window and an enormous dragon flew in and stood in front of me. “Hi, I am Shard.” He had a long black and red body, sharp golden horns, long white teeth and a thick yellow tail. “I live in the Greater Bay waters but I am lonely. Will you play with me?” He looked a bit shy. “Um…ye…yes!” I was so shocked. Shard flew me to a gigantic ocean with many seagulls. He gave me a snorkel and we went down into the ocean. “Here is my home,” he said. Shard pointed out a crystal palace to me. The coral was so cool looking! Shard’s house was awesome, he had a really comfy bed, a tall trophy, a nice couch and a big backyard with many books. He even had a black Labrador puppy. His country is called Alba and he lives in a city call Surban. In Surban there are lots of dogs, flying cats, walking trees and cars that can talk. It has two castles all made of marbles. In Surban, Shard’s house stands out the most! Shard lived alone so nobody played with him. He said he never had a human friend and he was so happy I became his friend. Every day, Shard and I went to the beach to swim, play beach ball, build sandcastles, make sand men, and have cold, refreshing drinks. One day, Shard brought some paintbrushes, lots of colors, a frame, a canvas, and an easel. He sat on the beach the whole morning and drew on the canvas. When he finished, he put the painting in the frame. It was a little drawing of him and me holding hands together. Shard asked, “Will you be my friend? And can we be superheroes together? I can teach you magic.” “Of course!” I replied happily. One day, Shard and I took our jackets and went outside. Suddenly, a tall building started to fall, Shard and I dashed over to help, Shard grew out ten new arms and helped me hold the building up. He evacuated very person in the building while I held it. Yes, I can hold a building with the magic power I learnt from Shard. When Shard finished evacuating the people from the building we were so pleased, and we looked at each laughing at our grey and dark faces. There was a lot of dust from the building almost falling. Another day, when we were playing a board game outside, we saw a big fire from the mountain. Shard dashed over to the seashore and called his water dragon friend Foz. I helped all the animals find a safe hiding place. Finally, the fire went out and we saved all the animals. Shard and I become superheroes in the Greater Bay area. There are many stories about us. We are famous.
