The Changes of the Greater Bay Area
Victoria Shanghai Academy, Wang, Matt - 10
“AWWW!” I yawned I opened my eyes and got off the bed. “UHH!” I yawn again and my jaw cracks. I
went to the windows, ripped them open, and a beam of sunlight blasted into the room. “What a good day
in Fortress Hill!” I told myself. I went to the kitchen and made myself some toast. While I waited, I decided
to go out on this beautiful day, so I texted my friend Alex, “Wanna go to the Hac Sa Beach in Macau
together at 10?” I waited and after a century, he finally replied. “Sure!”
I started to pack my things to go to Hac Sa beach. I skipped into my storeroom and grabbed my beach
bag starting to stab things quickly inside. “The sunglasses I bought in Shenzhen…..The umbrella I bought in
Macau in my previous visits……And beach mats from HK…..” I whispered to myself as I threw them one
by one into the bag, I also grabbed some other things like my wallet, my phone, and I changed into my
swimming suit. I was about to go when a thought flew into my head. “I can bring an ice bucket, and fill it
with ice and drinks!” And that’s exactly what I did straight away, I grabbed my ice bucket quickly, went to
my freezer, and filled half of it with ice, and I put in tons of drinks. “Pepsi, coconut water, Milk tea, Kyoho
grape juice...” I mumbled, as soon as I was done, I got all my stuff, and went to my car, the car that I got for
my birthday on my 24th birthday.
As I inserted my key into the car, the car’s engines started to rumble like thunder. I just got this car for
my twenty-third birthday. I strapped myself onto the car with my seat belt. I set the destination for the
beach and flew off on to the road. My car bolted through the tunnel, got on the ferry, then I took a few
turns, and parked my car at the beach garage.
I walked quietly through the passageway, with my flip-flops, making duck noises that echoed in the
silence, I made a turn into the beach. I was about to set up my station when I saw someone waving in my
direction. I couldn’t recognize him but I moved closer, and a thought suddenly landed into my head like a
parachute falling from the sky. OH YEAH! Alex! I ran like a jaguar racing to catch its prey in Alex’s
direction. And I soon got over to him.
Alex was setting up a barbecue stand, with all kinds of appetizing beef and pork turning brown.
“Whew!! It’s so hot today!” I exclaimed, even though it was pretty obvious, I glanced at the sea.
“Why not go and swim in the sea?” I asked, but Alex was not concentrating, while he placed a piece of
meat onto a plate.
“SUre” He replied, only not so sure what he was saying. As he put some chicken wings onto the fire.
“Uhhhhhh! It’s like an oven here!” I exclaimed as I waited for Alex, I switched on my phone steadily so It
won’t drop into the golden sand, and switched on to the news.
“HK PROTESTORS HIT KOWLOON AND ATTACKS ADMINISTRATION TOWERS……
SOME PROTESTORS ARE ATTACKING AIA, SMASHING THE BARRIERS ON THE
WINDOWS AND THROWING SMOKE GRENADES EVERYWHERE, TRYING TO MAKE THE
GOVERNMENT LISTEN TO THEM.” The news reporter shouted.
“Hmmmmmm…..” I muttered under my breath, people protesting against the government’s decisions...
Curiously, I googled “HK protesters” and waited nervously for the results, I scrolled through…
“Hmmmm... HK protesting of government not caring about the climate change of HK….. Protesting
because of heat…..” Sudden;y, a shot flew into my mind. “Join HK protestors.”
After me and Alex finished, I went home. I slowly stepped into the shower to take a shower. My lips
trembled. “Protest, or not protest?” What if I get arrested? But if we succeed, we would write history! And I
made the decision: Protest!!
I flew into my living room like a hawk diving down to catch its prey. I took the laptop and registered for
the new protest, I slowly waited for the confirm button to show itself, and as soon as it loaded, slowly but
steadily, I clicked “Confirm”.
As I ran, I saw more people dressed up as protestors, we ran towards our gathering spot, hundred
thousands of people, nearly 1 million gathered together, we grabbed some drinks from the supply center and
ran off. “GOVERNMENT! DO SOMETHING!” We screamed.
