Future Adventuires of the Greater Bay Area
Regents Primary School of Shenzhen, Zhuang, Yan - 9
Once upon a time there was a famous family called the Ballen’s who loved to travel. The family owned a
time machine. It could take them to any time in the history they wanted. Wendy was the youngest member
of the Ballen. One night, she decided to go on her own adventure. She sat on the time machine and said the
code, ‘Wooshy woosh take me to the future’. The time machine started buzzing on and then she fell asleep.
When she opened her eyes she knew she was flying through the sky. There was a big board on the hill in
the front of her. It said ‘Welcome to the Greater Bay Area’. Wendy’s family was now living in Shenzhen, in
the heart of the Greater Bay Area. She always have many dreams of how her home town looks like in the
future.
Wendy flew across a few houses. Some houses were made from watermelons, some houses were made from
huge sea shells. ‘Oh, Coconut house’, Wendy shouted out. That was her dream house. It was built from the
world’s biggest coconut, and because it still hung on the tree, it kept growing bigger! There was an elevator
inside the tree which took her to her house. Whenever she walked into the house she could always smell
coconuts, it made her feel hungry. There was also a small ice cave. She found lots of fruit and some milk
inside there. She talked to herself, ‘This must be the fridge’. The strawberry looked so fresh, then something
magical happened. She thought about a strawberry milkshake, and suddenly she had one in her hand.
After a rest, Wendy flew in a flying motorbike into a park in Hong Kong. There were a lot of new plants
Wendy had never seen before. One was called Blue Nail tree, another was called Pink Bell Ring tree. They
not only looked beautiful but also they could produce cool fresh air. People didn’t have to use air
conditioning anymore. It really saved a lot of energy on the earth and also reduced the effect of climate
change. There was also a pond inside the park. The pond was connected to the sea through the water pipes
under the earth. It could generate real waves. People could surf on it. Also, people could rest beside the lake
like they were on a beach. What a fantastic joyful place it was! People came from all over the world to visit
the new Greater Bay Area. They just had to fly to the new biggest international airport in the world, based
in Guangzhou, which cemented the regions as the most developed place in the 21st century. She took a
walk around the park, using her phone to speak to people using many different languages, when suddenly
she heard a loud thunder coming from beneath the ground.
‘Wake up, Wendy. It is a school day!’ Wendy’s mum called her. She tried very hard to open her eyes. Ah, it
was a dream. She jumped out of bed, and thought about all the things she could learn at school to make the
future possible.
