My Adventures in the Greater Bay Area St Francis of Assisi's English Primary School, Wong, Yuet Lam Felice - 10 “Wake up sweetie! We are going to the GBA today,” said my mum early in the morning. I yawned sleepily and asked, “Where is that?” “The GBA stands for Greater Bay Area. It is a new area of the world without boundaries, integrating cities from southern China, Hong Kong and Macau,” explained my mum. I was very disappointed. I hated going to different parts of China. Why go to GBA to see boring historical sites when you could go to places like Australia and relax on the beaches? But, my parents have already planned this trip for us and I couldn’t say “no”. First, we took a ferry to Macau. It was a very long journey and I started to get a bit seasick. Fortunately, we finally made it to Macau after an hour. I had a sulky expression on my face when we were walking to a museum. However, that sulky expression faded away when we stood in front of the Macau Science Center. This museum was special- it was in the shape of an inclined cone. I have never seen any museum like this before! Inside, we watched a 3D film. We were delighted and excited. After the movie, we went into a gift shop and bought a card game. It was called Brain Box. Afterwards, we went to a hotel to settle in for the night. The Macau food at the hotel was marvelous- I would love to have more in the future! Next, we went on a road trip to Zhuhai. It was a bright and sunny day, so, we decided to go to Chimelong Ocean Kingdom, a theme park in Zhuhai. There were plenty of sea animals and enough fun for an entire family to be entertained for at least half a day. My favourite ride was the Spinning Pirate Ship. It was very self-explanatory - it was basically a spinning pirate ship. Although I got a bit dizzy after the ride, I still thought it was very interesting. I also adored the dolphin show. Dolphins are one of the smartest sea animals on Earth, and these ones in particular knew how to do all kinds of stunts and tricks. I could tell that they were well-trained. After a spectacular day at Chimlong Ocean Kingdom, we headed towards Yan Ting, a famous Chinese restaurant in Zhuhai. We tried the famous Peking duck. To eat it, you simply wrap slices of the duck into a piece of pastry. You can also put some vegetables or sauces in the wrap to make it more delicious. After our dinner, we booked a hotel in Zhuhai to stay for the night to get some energy and prepare for the following day’s activities. The next day, we packed our luggage and went to Jiangmen. We went to Mt. Guifeng National Forest Park. Although it was super boring, we got to see the beautiful scenery along the way. We walked up to the peak of the park. It was very tiring, but I think that the fact that we get to see the magnificent view from the peak was worth the walk. Then, we went to the park at the bottom to play for a bit. There was also a fish pond, which had some cute carp inside it. Fortunately, we didn’t stay for a long time since my brother and I were getting bored. So, we went to another Chinese restaurant to eat lunch. Then, we went back to the hotel to relax. It was a relaxing afternoon, my brother and I were busy playing a new card game that we bought at the Macau Science Center. Basically, one person takes a card out of the Brain Box. Then, he or she has ten seconds to study the card. After that, that person will roll a dice and he or she has to answer the question according to the number on the back of the card. In the end, the person with the biggest amount of cards wins. We picked the Math Brain Box. There were some other topics such as Science and Dinosaurs, which I looked forward to playing. Meanwhile, my parents were discussing where we should go tomorrow. We slept until 10 o’clock in the morning in our comfortable hotel. Now, we were all full of energy and ready to continue adventuring. But first, we needed to cook breakfast. We waited while our mom was busy cooking. We enjoyed our egg sandwich and continued on. Today, our parents decided to travel to Zhongshan. We paid a visit to Sun Yat Sen’s Residence Memorial Museum. Sun Yat Sen was a Chinese philosopher, physician, and politician, who served as the first president of the Republic of China and the first leader of the Kuomintang. The museum showcased Sun Yat Sen’s personal and family history. His famous quote, “The World is Equally Shared By All” was also on the front wall of the museum. I certainly look up to him. Some people even consider him as the “George Washington” of China.
