My First Day as the Governor of Greater Bay Area Regents Primary School of Shenzhen, Tan, Kelvin - 8 One morning, I awake and I am in a big office. Later, people come into the office calling me ‘Hello Boss.’ Is it true? I suddenly realize that I have become the Governor of the Greater Bay Area now. Oh, I need to recall my knowledge. As my parents told me, Greater Bay Area is a big area that is made of 11 cities, including Hong Kong, Macao, Shenzhen, Guangzhou and other cities. They are all surrounding the Pearl River Delta. There are different languages used such as Mandarin, Cantonese, Hakka, English and Portuguese. A close memory, it felt like just yesterday that I was a primary student in Shenzhen. How can I understand all the languages? It makes me bewildered. As I sit in my office, I gaze at map on the wall as I try to understand this peculiar situation. Frankly, it is strange to me. I think I need to have a meeting with the mayors in each city. Looking at my schedule, I am free today. It would be preferable if the date of the scheduled meeting could be changed, but my secretary tells me that it may take days to change the meeting date. ‘What has happened? Why?’ I asked. My secretary explains to me that we are in Hong Kong now. People from other cities in the Mainland cannot come to Hong Kong and Macao directly like from Shenzhen to Guangzhou. They need to pass the custom with their one-way permits. Their cars cannot go into Hong Kong too. Oh no! Is there anything else? My secretary tells me there are many problems. I spend all day to discuss the different problems in the region with my secretary. As the Governor of Greater Bay Area, I have to use my own power to make executive decisions for the benefits of all people in the Greater Bay Area. Below are my new rules and regulations: Remove all the imposing customs of the cities in the Greater Bay Area. All tariffs will be removed at the check points so that cargo, vehicles, and labour can move freely within the Greater Bay Area. Keep Mandarin as the official language while all other languages will be labeled as dialects as in other areas of China. Set up speedy checkpoints between each city to allow people to move more freely to other cities. This is the first day of my life of leadership in the Greater Bay Area. There are many issues to face, but I am confident that I will be a good Governor and I can offer benefits for all citizens.
