A Special Day
Shanghai United International School WanYuan, Guo, Bambi - 10
When I opened my eyes one morning, I was surprised to find that I had landed in something soft. I touched
it and it stuck to my hand. I stared at it carefully. It looked like cream. Then I tried to lick it. It tasted sweet!
What? It was a bed made of a cake! I poked myself and found I was not dreaming!
I was very excited. “Hurry, I’m hungry!” I murmured to myself and started eating the cake. “Hmm, how
tasty the pillow is, especially the big lollipop roll inside!” I said with satisfaction.
“Oh, no!” suddenly I cried, “I ate my bed! I don’t have a bed to sleep in tonight!” “I must buy one!” After
calming down, I decided to buy a new bed.
I went outside. Forgetting to tell you, I lived in Guangzhou city, located in the Greater Bay Area of China.
It was totally a paradise for humans to live in because all the best wishes would come true here. That’s why
people all over the world were attracted to come here. Now, as usual, the streets were bustling with people
and activities. But different from usual, I noticed it was really weird because all things here were made of
sweet stuff, even the houses! The houses were made of cake, the cars were made of cream, and even the
roads were made of chocolate! I wondered if toilets were made of candy! And, what if pianos were made of
ice cream that could not melt? It must be tasty! I love it here!
“Hi, boy, happy Children’s Day! Want to buy a flying car? Won’t you?” when I immersed in the big
surprise, a middle-aged man appeared. “Yes! Today is Children’s Day!” It suddenly dawned on me why
everything was sweet. It’s a special day for kids and their wishes would come true. The man continued,
“The car flies fast and it’s cheap. It only costs ten galleons. What a fantastic car! Every kid deserves it today.
Look, they are coming! ” From the direction the man pointed, I saw many flying cars driving on the road.
Sometimes they were flying across the blue sky and sometimes they were running along the sugar road, just
depending on the traffic conditions. But the man didn’t know it was me who had invented the flying car. I
smiled at him with a secret happiness. Yes, I got funded by the Scholarship of the Greater Bay Area and
invented the flying car two years ago, though I was a child. And I was also invited to participate in the
development of traffic regulations for flying cars. I was very proud because a very important regulation I
proposed was adopted by the government. That was, no parking flying cars on land in heaving traffic. Park
them on clouds!
Wait! What the man said, “galleons”? Suddenly, I remembered the man’s words. What the heck? How
could Harry Potter’s coins come to our real life? Were they also gifts for children? I was so surprised that I
could not say a word in this moment. At the same time, the man’s words reminded me I should buy my
bed. But where could I get galleons? Ah! Gringotts Shop!
When I arrived at the Gringotts Shop, a young man greeted me with pleasure. “Hi, little boy, what can I do
for you?” “I want to get 50 galleons.” I replied, “I have a question, sir. Is galleon from the world of Harry
Potter?” “Oh, no, Galleon is the money used in the Greater Bay Area, and now more people are using it
around the world.” The man laughed. I tumbled. We usually used online express payment and it had been a
long time since I had paid in cash. “Wait a minute please. I’ll get you some galleons.” As he spoke, he ran
into the door. A few minutes later, he was back with 50 galleons in his hand. “Here you are, boy.” “Thank
you!” I said. The young man beamed a warm smile at me.
Out of the Gringotts Shop, I’d buy my bed.
There were many shopping malls in the Greater Bay Area, but the largest one for beds was in Hong Kong. I
jumped on the Guangzhou-Hongkong high-speed train and set out towards Hong Kong. It was very
convenient in the Greater Bay Area; with trains departing every five minutes, it only took ten minutes from
Guangzhou to Hong Kong.
At the moment I got the supermarket in Hong Kong, I was a little overwhelmed. There were a dazzling
array of beautiful goods, with different colors, shapes and flavors! They were made of sweet food, including
all kinds of beds. Some beds were made of cake, chocolate, or fruit and others were made of cold ice cream.
Every bed looked so good that I couldn’t make up my mind which to choose. Just as I hesitated, an assistant
came. “Can I help you, chap?” she asked politely. “Could you introduce these beds to me? I want to buy a
bed for myself, preferably one that smells good.” I replied. “Sure! These beds are really unique because they
give off different fragrances which will relax our body and mind. The beds can be divided into three
categories according to their fragrance. One is the scent of kapoks, which represents Guangdong Province.
