Choices International Christian School, Cheung, Jonna - 9 Hazel glanced at the big city the boat was arriving. She thought of her small cottage back at home. As she arrived, she looked all the gigantic buildings that chased the clear sky. Hazel felt a heavy feeling growing inside of her the confidence she had slowly faded away. With the frightened mind Hazel entered the great halls of the university. She shuffled in her pocket, looked for her letter. Hazel quickly unfolded her letter and re-read it. “Dear Hazel Rosewood, we are sorry to tell you that you are not accepted to University of Chimeha. headmaster Smith.” Tears dropped on her letter as Hazel walked away. She had no scholarship and no money left. She walked down the streets as the feeling started to tangle her heart. Cold tears started to run down again as Hazel tried to hide them. She crossed the road and there her eyes perked up her frown slowly turned into a smile. “A job!” Hazel exclaimed! Her sadness ran away as the bright feeling conquered it. Hazel strutted in and a while later she walked out with the job she wanted. Every day she had blisters on her hands, but she didn’t care she wanted to go. One beautiful morning she got ready to leave she saw a letter in her mailbox. “Dear Hazel, please return home. Your grandfather has a serious cancer. We can’t afford to pay. Please return home!” She froze. The thoughts in her mind rushed away. She only had one choice use my money for school or use it for her grandfather? I love my grandfather, but I really want to go to university. She sighed as she headed to the dock with a heavy heart. She gave her money to the ticket booth and waited. “As soon as I get my ticket, I will NEVER be able to come back!” Hazel thought, a heavy chain pressing on her heart. Slowly she stepped on the boat but just then the mailman stopped her. With a breathless voice he said “WAIT!!!” Hazel turned around looking at the mailman surprised. “Here is a letter for you!” He hollered. Without thinking, she grasped the letter. She ripped open the envelope and peered inside. It wrote “Hazel it’s a miracle! Your grandfather is healed! Please still come back for celebration!!!” As she read, the words flew in her mind. As the moon came out, she realized that the boat had turned into thin air. Glancing at the sea, she muttered “I guess I’ll just go tomorrow. She slowly walked home, with a sigh, she laid down on her bed and couldn't stop thinking about the letter. It seemed as if there was no ending. She tossed and turned as the sun rose up. She walked to the dock. When she got on the boat, letter was stuck in her mind. When she returned home, she realized what was important. Not scholarship, but family. Tears rolled down her cheek as she ran to hug her grandfather.
