“Who’s she again?” asked a small boy from the group. “Uhhh! Do I have to explain again? She’s Katana Gladiolus! Mother nature cared about her more than us, remember? That’s why we’re planning to kill her!”a teenager yelled at the child. I stared back at everyone, giving them a suspicious look, questioning, “Who are you? Why are you here? What happened to mother nature?!” The tall, hunching man spoke again, “I’ll just say: We were born the same way as you, invisible - popped out of the earth’s crust. When you were born, mother nature spent most of her time taking care of you that she forgot of us. We were mad, honestly, we were jealous. So we killed her.” A tear trickled down my face, I went all pale - at the thought of mother nature dead, I couldn’t take it. She was dead, the whole world was going to suffer. Gulping, a drizzle of insanity rushed through my veins. “You killed her.” I stared at the dead body and pointed at it, “SHE raised you to become this! Although she didn’t spend much time on you, you all still existed in THIS world!” Everyone looked astonished at my reaction, there was a moment of awkward silence. “Why should we listen to you?” a girl broke the silence. The group nodded in agreement. I sighed (I really wanted to scream at them but I knew that wasn’t going to help). “Ehm,” I coughed, annoyed, “After you killed mother nature, have you forgotten that she was the only one who took care of the universe? By the looks of it, your blue eyes represent the sky and ocean. Mine are green - nature and the universe. The reason the beloved one spent so much time on me was because I was the only one in the world that could help her!” My voice gradually became louder and tenser. “If you kill me, what would the world become?” A pause went through the crowd, some nodded, remarking, “The girl’s got a point-!” Watching them huddle together to decide, a soft voice explained, “I think we should trust her - maybe mother nature was looking after her most because… when mother nature would die, Katana Gladiolus would take her place as the new mother nature…” A few scowled. The crowd turned around and observed my features. Worriedly, I looked at the plants and informed them this had to be a quick decision. It seemed the group had a leader - a tall, rather old man took charge, declaring, “Katana Gladiolus, we’ve seen the truth. You’re now the new mother nature. Congratulations!” We both shook hands in appreciation. A bird landed on my arm and handed me a flower. A family… At once, I felt power inside me… Steadily, I lit the country back to life. We prayed of mother nature’s death. Then, back to our jobs we went. I thought, thinking: Although we’re unnoticed to others, we all have a huge role in life. I smiled gladly, my eyes trailing off, forcing my head to turn up - A glint of mother nature’s soul was rising up above the sky, towards a new purpose.
