The Return of Dragon King

Long ago there lived mighty Dragon King in the depths of the Pearl River that flew through Southern
China. Pearl River area has been prosperous for centuries because Dragon King has prevented Pearl River
to flood and damage farms and cattle.
Nevertheless, the wife of Dragon King passed away recently and the King was left to rule the kingdom with
grief. Everyone in Pearl River loved him for he had used his powers to stop overfishing and keep the circle
of lives running well in Shenzhen and Guangzhou so the cities turned out to be the best-known places in
Southern China for being environmentally friendly. Every morning people were bustling to work. Yet not
everyone knew that a dragon king living in the river had made their lives as happy as they could be and the
people who knew there was a dragon were too scared to say anything since the Dragon King disliked
disturbance from human beings.
One day, the Dragon King decided to leave home to see the bigger world outside Pearl River. He swam
into the Southern China sea to explore. While swimming in the dark Southern China sea he discovered a
big cave with light coming out of it. He wondered aloud trying to decide whether he should go in or not.
The magnificent Dragon King decided he would go in. As he advanced in the cave he stared at the cave
wall filled with shimmering light bulbs. He went in and in till he came to the end, there he saw a dragon
weeping on the ground collecting the tears that rolled down her cheeks as she cried. “My lady, whatever is
the matter?” the Dragon King gently asked. The dragon king was very gentle and friendly and he could not
bear watching the dragon cry. “Well I suppose I should tell you.” the dragon sniffed. “ My name is Jade
Dragon. I was captured by the Dragon of the North. He is very powerful and lives in the Norwegian Sea.
He is now having a short vacation here and captured me. That evil dragon is now out hunting for food and
should be back soon and I don’t know the way home.” the Jade dragon wiped the tears off her cheeks.
“Don’t worry I will help you get home.” the dragon king assured her.” “Now let us get out of this cave
together and find your home in this vast open sea.” Just then the Dragon of the North entered the cave.
“Just what do you think you are going to do with her. Rescue her? It is too late now, I’m here.” the
wrongdoing dragon sneered.
A mighty battle started between the Dragon of the North and the Dragon King. After fighting for days and
nights, both dragons were wounded and exhausted but no one would give in. They were lashing with their
tails and scratching with their sharp claws. With one final grunt, the Dragon King lashed the Dragon of the
North dead on the ground. There was a long silence as the evil dragon died. Finally, the great Dragon broke
the ice. “Are you ready for us to find your home now?” The Jade Dragon said, “I am game if you are.” As
soon as the Dragon King heard this, he smiled and said: “Then let us begin our new journey.”
The two journeyed through the cave and through the South China sea. They soon found themselves in love
with each other. After days of searching, the Dragon King came to a halt. He said, “We have been
searching in Southern China for ages and I don’t mean to be rude but where is your family and home?”
This made the Jade Dragon slap her forehead and say “I am so sorry but the Dragon of the North has wiped
out my memory about home. When the Dragon of the North captured me, the only thing I remember was
that I was on a journey with parents.”, said the Jade Dragon. “The Dragon of North slaughtered my parents
and ate them in front of my eyes!”, cried Jade Dragon. “So finding a husband to protect me was in my
parents will.” sighed Jade Dragon. Hearing this made the gorgeous ruler beam and said. “ Will you marry
me in the Pearl Palace my castle?” The pretty Jade Dragon jumped up and down in excitement and cried
“Of course I will !”
So then, it was known that the great Dragon King was going to remarry to the amazing and beautiful Jade
Dragon! Everybody in the Pearl River rejoiced and celebrated. On the day of the wedding everybody that
was living on Pearl Street, Dragon Bay road and elsewhere were all throwing flowers at the married couple.
Everyone was content but the most ecstatic of all was the Dragon King and Jade Dragon later became the
Dragon Queen. “Do they ever live happily after? I do not know”, said the author. However, people in
Southern China all remember the great story of the Dragon King, and we can find the statue of Dragon
King in many cities in Southern China now.
