Heep Yunn Primary School, Lee, Phyllis - 11
The Greater Bay Area ( GBA ) will involve nine cities including Hong Kong, Macau, Guangzhou,
Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Foshan, Huizhou, Dongguan, Zhongshan, Jiangmen and Zhaoqing. The GBA to build
on the four core cities of Hong Kong, Macao, Guangzhou and Shenzhen as core engines for regional
development, continue leveraging their comparative advantages in striving for excellence and achievements,
and strengthen the radiating effect in leading the development of nearby regions.
The GBA has five basic principles to develop on. Firstly, to be driven by innovation and led by
reform, producing brand new products built on the advanced technology in the four core cities (Hong
Kong, Macau, Guangzhou and Shenzhen). Secondly, to pursue green development and ecological
conservation. With the help of these cities’ government, there will be more advertisement on being
environmentally friendly. Also, more parks and green buildings will be built to make a green and
comfortable environment. Thirdly, to open and cooperate and achieve a win-win outcome. To support
Zhuhai, Foshan, Huizhou, Dongguan, Zhongshan, Jiangmen and Zhaoqing in fully leveraging their
strengths, deepen reform and innovation, enhance the composite strengths of the cities, and form key node
cities with distinct characteristics, complementary positioning and strong competitiveness. Fourthly, to share
the benefits of development and improve people's livelihood.
In Technology, The Greater Bay Area development brings valuable opportunities to Hong Kong's
I&T development. Leveraging on its advantages in technological research and development (R&D),
internationalization and its status as an international finance Centre, Hong Kong can pool together
innovative resources from the Greater Bay Area and the world to promote R&D on I&T, boost our
competitiveness and create quality job opportunities.
In financial services, as a major international financial centre, Hong Kong has a prudent and robust
financial regulatory regime. Over the past four decades, Hong Kong's economy has been closely connected
to the Mainland's development. As the Mainland becomes the world's second-largest economy, Hong Kong
has given full play to its considerable advantages by contributing to national development.
In education, since the establishment of the Hong Kong SAR, education cooperation between Hong
Kong and the Mainland has reached a new pedestal, achieving good progress in areas such as joint offering of
educational programs, student exchange, scientific research collaboration and professional training. And, in
arts and culture, Hong Kong is the cultural hub of Asia, with artists and cultural organizations from all
around the world gathering here, to showcase creativity and vibrancy in this Asia's world city. Ranging from
traditional Chinese dance and classical ballet to contemporary dance and experimental theatre, from
exhibitions of cultural heritage to contemporary arts, Hong Kong has an endless array of arts and cultural
activities, providing varieties to different audiences.
So, you could imagine what living in such a wonderful area feels like. The most brand-new
technology products will be used in all kinds of industries, including schools, business areas, hospitals and
even restaurants. And we could enjoy many different traditional food and shows from southern China cities.
It will be a culture exchange for every city in the GBA. Also, we students get to experience different
teaching methods from the teachers from another city. As for financial, the four core cities will drive the
development of towns nearby with distinct characteristics, and jointly raise the development quality of the
city cluster. I really hope this GBA can fully improve our lives.
