Future Adventures of the Greater Bay Area
Heep Yunn Primary School, Ho, Cadence - 11
Well, hello there! I am Cadence and I am a citizen of Cantonesia, which was formerly called, “The
Greater Bay Area”. All of us speak the same language - Cantonese. Cantonese is the traditional language
spoken mainly by Guangzhou people in the past. Nowadays, few people speak this language, yet we have
chosen to speak Cantonese, instead of following Mainland China’s footsteps and speak Putonghua.
In Cantonesia, we can have a taste of all sorts of local snacks: Egg tarts, Fish balls, Egg puff, Mixed
Beef Snack…… Although your parents have always told you not to buy food from street hawkers, I believe
that it’s totally worth it to eat local street food from Cantonesia. It is not only much more hygienic than
before, It’s also cheap and delicious. When your mom hands you five dollars, you might think, what can five
dollars do? Well, we know the answer! Buy some curry fish balls!
Cantonesia is not only famous for its local snacks, it also has some very famous landmarks. The Palace
is a luxurious hotel, inspired by traditional chinese temples! At the entrance, you are welcomed by twelve
beautiful, detailed statues, each one representing a chinese zodiac. They include: The Rat, The Ox, The
Tiger, The Dragon, The Rabbit, The Snake, The Horse, The Goat, The Monkey, The Rooster, The Dog
and The Pig. The roof of the hotel is made of yellow porcelain pieces, with two dragon statues on top. The
hotel’s main color is red, as it represents good luck, according to traditional Chinese folktales.
In Cantonesia, there is also another well-known landmark - The Dragon. It is a very modern
shopping mall. It sparkles in the sunlight, all thanks to the one hundred thousand glass panes on top of it.
The architect who designed such a breath-taking building - Ian Yang said that he wanted those glass panes
to look like the scales of a dragon. The “head” of the dragon, also known as Sky Cliff, looks realistic, just
like a fierce dragon! Sky Cliff is also a beautiful balcony, for us citizens of Cantonesia to observe the
satisfying view of our city. Every night at 9pm, there is a Symphony of Lights , and the “dragon” lights up,
transforming into a mythical, mysterious glowing dragon!
Cantonesia is no ordinary city. It is a combination of modern structures and Chinese traditions. There
are delicious street snacks, and breath-taking landmarks. Cantonesia is my home. I love Cantonesia!
