Future Adventures of the Greater Bay Area Heep Yunn Primary School, Fan, Francesca - 11 Have you ever thought of living in a place with more land than Switzerland, more people than Canada and more business activity than Australia? Well, before moving to the Greater Bay Area, I also have never thought of such a place. Living in the Greater Bay Area means that I'll be living in a whole new world, the Greater Bay Area is an area the government just launched. Just by taking a walk, you'd see a place full of futuristic buildings and facilities such as flying platforms that work as offices to save space. Traditional transportation would be replaced with clear, flying, platforms powered by electricity to protect the environment. The Greater Bay Area has a huge population coming from both China and Hong Kong, although affecting the distribution of resources, it also is beneficial for economic development, the GBA’s historical and geographic factors also help expand its financial markets. The Greater Bay Area in the present is also a tourist attraction itself since it possesses both Hong Kong, China, and Macau’s tourist attractions such as the ruins of St. Paul, Temple street and Zhangjiajie National Park. As many tourists come here because they can both have fun and shop at the same time, the GBA would likely have a great reputation. My everyday life in the Greater Bay Area starts from waking up in the morning and ’going to school’ through a tablet which every student possesses and finish the homework afterward. Life is not much different from before moving to the GBA except that there are more futuristic details such as smart bookshelves that are able to get you the book that you need at the time, a self-cleaning building, even street cleaning robots exist in this place! As a citizen in the GBA left and right moving elevators and moving platforms on the floor are often seen in daily life, these are all made to benefit the convenience of our daily lives. Tourism takes a large part in the GBA’s income resources as the GBA attracts a lot of tourists, the GBA is full of attractions itself. There are many different attractions in the GBA such as the Macau Skywalk, the Star Ferry and the Forbidden City. These are all very important factors that support the income coming from tourism. Macau's gambling industry also takes a big part in the GBA’s financial markets, as well as China and Hong Kong’s cuisine services. Many tourists get act tracked to Hong Kong because of its infamous night view too. The GBA’s traffic is also one of the main reasons why the tourists would like to stay, with the Hong Kong – Zhuhai - Macau Bridge on full service, travelling through these three places would be as easy as ABC. Also, with Hong Kong's MTR services spread out to each corner of the GBA, life would be way more easy and convenient. The Maglev trains coming from China also benefits our daily as it is fast enough to catch up with our busy schedules. So far, I have only thought of a few flaws of the GBA, and that is the distribution in public resources might not be enough and pollution problems. To solve these problems, I think the government should listen to the citizens thoughts and hold surveys to know about what we think about the city and find ways to improve it. To get rid of these problems, the government should hold recycling events to encourage people to recycle. Also, the government should take notice of the pollution we make each day and try to lessen it as much as we can. As the GBA population grows, housing is becoming a problem, to prevent this from happening, the leaders of the GBA are considering taking birth control to another level. At this point, each couple can only have one child. The government is also building more public houses for the people without the ability to rent or buy an apartment. At the same time, the government is also considering reclamation to expand our land. Although it might be harmful to nature, it still benefits the future of our ‘city ’. Watching the GBA grow day by day satisfies me as it tells me that technology has no limits. I look forward to seeing the GBA become better and better in the future.
