A Journey to the Future GBA Harrow International School Hong Kong, Lui, Michelle - 11 Scrambling frantically around the attic, Max searched around for his recent discovery. He’d hidden the peculiar metal book that was covered in a thousand locks. It had to be here somewhere. Finally, his face beamed as he found the silver glint of a shiny-new metal book. ‘Lily,’ Max called out. ‘Come here!’ His sister’s footsteps echoed around their spacious attic, and her head popped out of the hatch. ‘Is it that metal book?’ Lily said excitedly. Max nodded in elation, and opened the old book. A glow emitted, and they glimpsed flying buses and food that looked absolutely scrumptious. ‘It must be the future,’ Max said in awe. ‘Let’s go there!’ Before Lily could say anything, her brother disappeared into the book of wonder. She rolled her eyes and smiled. ‘Alright, Max. Here I go!’ She spun down a vortex that shone like a million stars. When Lily arrived, she saw her brother, giddily devouring some dumplings. She grinned mischievously. ‘We’re going to have a lot of fun!’ she told Max. The twins caught the nearest Aerobus and it shot off like a cheetah. They held onto the windowsill, screaming as it sped rapidly down the road. In less than half a minute, they’d arrived in what looked like China. ‘So this region is made up of Hong Kong, Macau, and China!’ Max exclaimed, accidentally throwing his last dumpling off a cliff. Apparently, thy were quite close to the Great Wall of China. ‘I can see the Great Wall,’ Lily said. ‘It’s… Changed.’ She saw giant machines with one person inside of each. It lunged across the colossal wall, taking their passengers from one place to another in a blink. It had four skinny spider legs, a body of a velociraptor and the robotic head of a cockatiel. If the Future GBA wanted to up their game, they had to figure out some better combinations. Sneakily, the twins hitched a vacant machine and zipped it across China and Hong Kong. Max ate his very last (and well hidden) dumpling. The ride was extremely bumpy, as if they were riding elephants with the speed of a private jet. Soon, the land of Hong Kong and China were covered by mountains, like the countries were shy. Macau came into view. There were gambling casinos everywhere. ‘I want to gamble!’ Max pouted. Lily grumbled. ‘Max, Mom will be SO mad.’ She followed her brother into the casino. He pocketed some random person’s cash and started to gamble. Lily huffed and sat down heavily on a nearby armchair. Her brother may have consumed her energy, but she knew it was the future; Max couldn’t run from this kind of opportunity. A few moments later, Max returned with a bucketful of gold coins. But Lily had disappeared. It was only 3pm. Horror torn away his happiness. Lily had been kidnapped in the future GBA.
