The Birth of a Union
Harrow International School Hong Kong, Cheng, Jessica - 11
In a cold winter evening, two great leaders- each helping the world in a different way- are on their way to
Victoria Peak to discuss―plans of the future. Miranda Gardener, a great ambitious woman, was the wife of
the late president of the United States. She wants to unite great cities together, to make one big union, just
like she united the union she is living in. Her work-partner is a man. A man who failed more than he
achieved, but his years of hard work eventually paid off. In fact, his name is, and will be forever, known
throughout the globe- he is the extraordinary, exceptional: Albert Einstein. These two people came all the
way from Germany and the United States to meet here, here in Hong Kong, soon to be known as one of
the major cities of the Greater Bay Area. At last, they meet face to face. At last, after hoping they would
meet years ago. At last, these two incredible leaders of the 20th century are here, here in the financial city of
Hong Kong, here to give birth to a new union: the Greater Bay Area.
In the year 3027, 2000 years later, the significant founders of the Greater Bay Area, Miranda
Gardener and Albert Einstein, were legendary in all of Hong Kong, Macau and Southern China. Many
infants and children grew up listening to stories about them. Everyone knew them: the heroes who founded
the wealthy, luxurious state of the Greater Bay Area.
Children grew up with Gardener and Einstein; children deeply respected Gardener and Einstein;
children were all eager to follow Gardener and Einstein’s footsteps. Gardener and Einstein were excellent
role models for the children to follow.
All around the state, wild roses and star-shaped violets bloomed under the golden sun. Standing in
the beautifully and strategically designed parks and public entertainment places, there were ancient oak trees
that were from the time of the two great founders. Houses were all unique and special in a different way and
specifically designed by one’s chosen architect. Everyone was treated with respect and favor everywhere and
at all times. Many have clothes of all sorts: fancy and casual, trendy and natural, cute and comfortable, there
were different varieties to choose from. If someone particularly needs clothes, there was always something to
offer in the City Centre.
The Greater Bay Area was a united state, therefore it was a democratic union where everyone
thrived. Laws were sensible and just and not only chosen and made with the government but also agreed by
the citizens of the Greater Bay Area, even though laws were rarely broken by people because everyone
thought things over and always asked others before making an important final decision. Bad deeds and
accidents were mostly forgotten and forgiven as the people of the Greater Bay Area all accepted that
everything one did always had a good side to it, a bright side.
The Place of Peace, The Place of Wealth, The Place of Beauty are all very fitting names for the
Greater Bay Area. The three major cities of the Greater Bay Area symbolized these names: Hong Kong was
The Place of Peace with its peaceful society and surroundings; Macao was The Place of Wealth with its large
hotels and its ability to attract tourists from all around the world; Southern China was The Place of Beauty
with its stunning landscapes, luminous, green fields and rolling hills taking your breath away.
This was a strong and powerful union, this was a calm, respecting union, this was the Greater Bay
Area. The founders weren’t the only ones who were part of this union, the citizens of the Greater Bay Area
were also a key part to the birth of the Greater Bay Area, the birth of a union.
