One morning, Skye woke up with a start. Everything had changed. It was a new Hong Kong! On the
way to her office, she could see phoenix egg rolls with shredded and pork floss being sold everywhere. Was
this Macau? Why were there so many wheat food and crispy rice crackers here? Was this Southern
Mainland China?
“Cantonesia” was the name of this region – the Greater Bay Area. Most of the people
spoke Cantonese here! Skye worked in the Hong Kong zone of Cantonesia.
In the morning, it was much easier to get on the bus for her, an office lady. The traffic
was very smooth as the urban was really well planned. Skye went to her office and she met many colleagues
from Macau and Southern Mainland China. There were many customers from the Greater Bay Area as
well.
Skye had bought some curry fish balls and wonton noodles for lunch. She saw her teammate from Macau,
Adrian, who had bought some Portuguese egg tarts as snacks. They shared the food with each other in the
staff lounge during lunch hour.
Meanwhile, Skye’s manager from Guangzhou, Sam, came in the staff lounge and enjoyed
his home-made stuffed bean curd.
Three of them looked out from the window. They saw the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau
Bridge. It was packed with “Cantonesians” – the citizens of the prosperous Greater Bay Area.
Skye needed to go on a business trip to Macau in the afternoon, so she walked out of the
company. She jumped on a bus to Macau through the bridge. When Skye arrived, she saw a lot of
monsters and fantasy creatures! Skye was scared out of her wits. A green monster with an enormous eye
asked her “bli-bo-goo?” She took out her phone and used the App “Moogle Translate” to translate the
question. It was asking her, “Who are you?”
Skye answered “Bo-gooe Skye” through the “Moogle Translate”.
All of a sudden, Queen Monsteria and King Monsten came. Monsten grabbed Skye to his
castle because Skye looked “different”. Monsteria gave her some cookies and tea. They chatted using the
“Moogle Translate” for hours. After a while, Monsten came in the dining room and said to Skye, “Wake
up! Lady. We had arrived in Macau already.” Skye woke up and found herself face to face with the bus
driver. “Oh sorry!” Skye apologised and got off the bus.
She looked around and found that the “Cantonesia” was not a fantasy land, but it was
truly exciting, new and fresh!
