Discovering the Greater Bay Area St Francis of Assisi's English Primary School, Fung, Chung Yuet Ingrid - 10 One day, when I was still sleeping in my bed, my mum shouted at me, “Wake up! It is a special day today!” When I heard it, I said, “Yeah! It must be a day that I can play online video games with my friends!” But Mum answered me, “No, we are going to have a journey in the Greater Bay Area!” Ugh! At the time, I thought that this journey to the GBA would be very boring. In the afternoon, we went to the Victoria Peak. It was my first time to ride the Peak Tram. I really enjoyed the journey to the Victoria Peak. We also went to Hong Kong Disneyland. We played all the games. My favourite is the RC Racer. We also went to one of the financial centres. We learned that Hong Kong’s status as the world’s premier international financial centre is well-recognised. With its unique advantage of having the Mainland as hinterland and its extensive global network, Hong Kong has firmly established itself as the dominant gateway to China and a global offshore renminbi business hub. Hong Kong is also Asia’s premier fintech hub. At night, we ate roast goose and also wontons. The next day, we went to Macau. Macau was famous for its tourist attraction. We went to the Macau Tower. Macau Tower is 338 metres in height and offers visitors a splendid panoramic view all over Macao. It is at the 223-metre level. We visited the Kun Lam Ecumenical Centre. This statue was dedicated to the Goddess of Mercy. It is 20 meters tall and made of special bronze. The dome shape base like a lotus flower is an ecumenical centre where information is available on Buddhism, Taoism and Confucianism. We also visited the Guia Fortress. It was designed to defend Macau from attacks from the sea. The Guia Fortress was a restricted military area until 1976 when it opened as a major tourist attraction. Our hotel was the Galaxy Hotel. It was the world’s largest Skytop Wave Pool covering 4,000 square meters and featuring a 350-ton white sand beach. For dinner, we ate Pork Chop Bun, Portuguese egg rolls, Steamed Milk Pudding......very delicious. On the third day, we went to Dong Guan’s SongShan Lake Park. Dad said, “This is perfect place to spend a day hiking or biking. There are miles of paved trails all around the park. It is a great place to escape the hectic and sometimes chaotic city. The air is exceptionally fresh due to the giant lake and surrounding trees. .The scenery was much more beautiful than I thought. We also went to the Qifeng Park. My mom said to Dad, “It's often quite crowded on weekends and holidays, but it's a great place for us to do some exercise, spend time with family or just relax.” We ate Canton style moon cakes as we heard that it was famous in Dong Guan. Actually I thought that the Canton style moon cakes were more delicious and amazing than the normal moon cakes we usually eat in the Mid-Autumn festival. On the fourth day, we went to Guangzhou. Guangzhou is famous for its Sacred Heart Cathedral. We took many photos outside it. We also went to the Huacheng Square at night. The scene was more beautiful than I expected! The scene was even more beautiful the Victoria Harbour in Hong Kong! I started to have some interest about this journey in Greater Bay Area. On the Fifth day, we went to Hui Zhou’s Honghua Lake Water Park. When we got there, there were only three or four people doing some exercise. It was so quite there, I could even hear the mosquitoes’ noise. I think it’s good timing to go there, because there was almost no one there except me and my family, so that I could relax in the Water Park. Actually, Hui Zhou is also famous for its moon cake and egg tart, but I think that the mooncakes we ate in Dong Guan are more and more delicious than the moon cake in Hui Zhou. On the last day, we went to our last place to visit, Shenzhen. Shenzhen’s famous place is Tien Hou Temple. And so, we went there. There were many people in the Tien Hou Temple when we got there. The huge, giant, enormous Tien Hou was in front of the couple of people. I took many and many photos with Tien Hou. We also ate a lot of Cantonese dim sum and Mum loves the Cantonese Congee very much. In this Greater Bay Area journey, I relaxed for a long time and have learnt some new things, tried new food in different countries......much, much more. The feeling I got at first was: Ugh! I dislike Greater Bay Area!It is very boring! But now, my feeling is: I love Greater Bay Area so much! I want to go there again and again!
