Skylar and the Stone American International School, Hung, Wai-Kit - 12 I t was one silent night, an unusually silent night. Skylar was sitting on a banana tree relaxing his body when he saw a shine from the mountain side. As you see Skylar is an adventurous boy, born to be roaming in the forests and deserts. So of course he was going to go towards the light. He jumpt down the tree swiftly without making any noise and ran towards the light as if it was a magnet luring him there. “Almost there,” huffed Skylar tiredly. The light was closer and closer until it almost blinded Skylar’s eyes with the bright light, as bright as star light. He quickly jumped and shielded his eyes from the light. The light magically evaporated as if it was a star that would light out if you touch it. “Wow, it’s… a stone?” Skylar cocked his head in confusion. Then he looked up at what kept the stone. Skylar gasped. It was the remains of the wall in the Old City Of Shanghai. The wall has once kept Old City Of Shanghai defended from intruders and invasions and has survived until now. “What?! I think my Grandpa has talked about a magic stone that has been carved in the wall of The Old City Of Shanghai. But it disappeared once it defended Old City Of Shanghai from the most vicious enemies.. And the legend says who ever has the stone will be granted any wish…” Skylar said as his voice seemed to trail off. “Hand it over little boy” someone said, unknown. “Who is it? Show yourself!” Skylar snapped. “I won’t need to, just hand the stone over, throw it in front of you.” said the shadow. “Come get it yourself,” retorted Skylar then broke in a full speed run. Surprisingly the shadow did not bother to follow but said one last sentence “I don’t know why the stone chose you to be its heir after Syrus but you will not be any longer.” Skylar shivered but kept running “Yeah sure, I can just wish for the shadow to disappear, and who’s Syrus? His cat?” he snorted. Then it struck him, Syrus, it was his own Grandpa. “Whaa..?? Syrus? “That’s m-m-my grandpa!” He stammered. “That’s why he knows about the legends, he was the heir of the stone!” he exclaimed, dazed with confusion. He trotted back home, straight for his Grandpa. His grandpa greeted him home “Hey Skylee how ya doing? Did you put your face on cow poop? What’s wrong with your mood?” “Grandpa, are you the heir of the legendar y stone?” Skylar said so suddenly that it shocked grandpa. “Uh.. well, how do you know?” Grandpa stammered. Skylar blurted his whole story out, about the unusual silent night and the glowing stone and the shadow. “Well, then I guess you’re the heir after me,” he shrugged. “I knew my age was old so I needed an apprentice. I never knew it was my own grandson.” he trailed off. “So I’m.. your apprentice and you’re gonna teach me how to summon wishes?” Skylar asked curiously. “Quick learning,” Grandpa commented. “Am I gonna be rich and all that?” Skylar asked. “I take back the part when I said quick learning” Grandpa said rolling his eye. “Yeah, Thanks A Lot,” Skylar retorted sarcastically. “You’re Welcome” Syrus rolled his eyes. “Hey Grandpa?” asked Skylar quietly. “What dumbo?” Syrus retorted. “Ummm...can I borrow your books for a while? I want to read comics.” Skylar lied. “Sure, go at them! Never thought you would read another book, now leave me in peace,” mumbled Syrus. Skylar slipped quiety into his Grandpa’s bedroom and slid out a drawer that was surprisingly not seen before and found a book called “Making Wishes and Casting Spells By: Syrus Diamond” which, is his Grandpa. He quickly flipped through the pages and read through the words quick until he reached a notice sign, he quickly read through that, it said “SPELLS ONLY PERFORMED IN BEHALF OF OLD CITY OF SHANGHAI” and quickly noticed that this stone was for protecting The Old City Of Shanghai. He gazed through the first wish saying “IMMUNITY, spell for defense. Cast this spell upon the wall of Old Shanghai IN ORDER to protect it
