M ei Li , are you ready , shouted a woman in grumpy voice .
Ehhh …? Mei Li said .
No you are not , as usual , replied the woman as she burst into Mei Li ’ s room , you better get ready quickly or else you will not attend your final test .
You call that a test , said Mei Li as she got out of her bed and started wearing her pink cheongsam , testing how to pour tea is not a test , a test is to test something that makes sense , who cares how a person pours tea in a cup ?
I don ’ t know when you are planning to bring honour to this family , grunted the woman as she combed Mei Li ’ s long , wavy , black hair to a bun , the only thing you are thinking about is to go in the theatre and do silly stuff called act , such dishonour , when your father comes back from village he will be dumbfounded to see that you have lost your mind !
Mei Li stomped out of the room and scurried towards the dining . She sat down on her slim knees and quickly took few bites of her rice and green tea which was waiting for her at the table . Once she was done , she stood up , looked an angry look at her mother with her glistening black eyes and went towards her class living her mother mad .
The main street was very busy , carts and carriages were running on road with horses neighing loudly . People were talking out loud and birds were making high pitch noises in people ’ s balcony to make the owners get rid of them with brooms . It was a sunny day no clouds were to be seen . There was not a single chance that it was going to rain . Mei Li took her umbrella over her head afraid she will tan her fair skin “ I am afraid that my laishore will grade me for my fair skin also ”, she muttered to herself . She continued walking quickly without taking any rest .
Mei Li and the other girls sat down on their knees on the ground with umbrella covering their faces . In about a few seconds the laishore came out of the room and faced the girls .
“ Mei Li ” shouted the laishore . But Mei Li was not paying attention instead she was looking at a bunch of actors practicing in a corner .
“ I said Mei Li !” shouted the laishore .
Then at once Mei Li said without noticing that the laishore was their “ What ”
“ No respect to the elders and not paying attention , terrible ”, said laishore as she noted it .
“ Oops ” muttered Mei Li .
“ Come inside ” said the laishore glaring at Mei Li .
Mei Li walked inside in the room and stood beside the laishore rather nervously . The room was painted red , on the walls there were pictures of dragons in golden colour . In the middle stood a low table with an ink bottle and a feather in it . You could have noticed a blank piece of parchment on the table .
