The New Tales of Old Shanghai

ong time ago , Shanghai was a crowded town . There was hustle and bustle on the streets where merchants were selling their products to people . Bicycles and carriages were rolling through the streets . Although the city was old and smelly , people still lived happily and in peace . A boy Leo , however , sensed something bad will happen very soon . He lived with his parents and two brothers and they were not wealthy as millionaires , but they were not as poor as beggars . Leo had many good friends and they always played together .
One day , while Leo was walking in the main street , he suddenly heard a strange sound . He scanned around but he couldn ’ t see anything out of the ordinary , so he kept advancing through the street . Few minutes later , there was another loud sound ! This time , he saw something strange . Someone was lying on the ground ! He ran towards the man and crouched down to help him when , suddenly , his hand started to shake , he saw a horrible thing . The man was bleeding . He then spotted a wound that looked like it came from a gunshot ! Leo was terrified , he stepped back and stood still , his eyes were full of fear .
Leo ran back home in terror , he left his friends on the main street . He sat on his wooden chair and looked outside carefully . He was afraid that the killer might find him and kill him . Few minutes later , Leo ’ s friends came to his house and knocked on the door . Leo opened the door and asked , “ What happened ?” His friends answered , “ Someone is lying on the ground again !” Leo ’ s mind was blank at that moment , he didn ’ t say anything . But , his friends started pulling him out of his house , so he followed them . They dashed quickly . Leo could not believe his eyes : another man lying on the ground , bleeding ! Then , Leo saw somebody running away ! They followed that person , until he reached a house ...
When the person entered the wooden house , Leo and his friends hid behind a rock , peeking into the house . They saw a group of people , some of them very muscular , talking about something , but Leo couldn ’ t hear what they were saying . While desperately trying to overhear their conversation , Leo and his friends noticed something terrible : a pile of knives and guns on the table in front of them ! Leo kept observing the people and he found something they had in common : all of them had the same tattoo on their right arm . Leo and his friends came to a scary conclusion : they are the killers !
Leo and his friends ran back home quickly and discussed what to do about the killers . They had no reasonable conclusions , so they planned to talk again tomorrow . Next day , they all gathered and walked trough the main street . While they were walking , they observed things around them to see if anybody is suspicious . They walked for half an hour but they did not discover anything , and just as they were planning to go back home , a muscular man walked past them . Suddenly , Leo remembered that he had seen that man before but he forgot when . Leo thought and thought and , finally , he remembered ! He was one of the people in the wooden house ! Leo whispered to his friends “ I think I saw one of the men from the wooden house yesterday .” His friends were astonished , they walked behind Leo as he was following the muscular man . Suddenly , a woman fell on the ground pressing her stomach . Leo ’ s friends went to help her . She was stabbed ! Leo kept following the muscular man . Suddenly , Leo couldn ’ t find him anymore ! He heard someone shouting so he ran towards the noise and found another man lying on the ground . Leo frowned , he looked around but he couldn ’ t see the muscular man . But he had a plan ! He was planning to find people to help him and his friends . The next day , the city was in a panic because people kept dying in the streets from gunshot and stab wounds . Leo and his friends told their parents about what they ’ d found two days ago . Their parents were shocked and immediately went to the police station to seek for help . After informing the police , Leo and his friends led them to go to the wooden house .
Leo and his friends crept silently to the wooden house with the police . When they reached the house , the police peeked in . Even though they see weapons and bad guys all the time , they were shocked . Suddenly , a man stood up and the police crouched down immediately . But it was too late ! A giant man opened the door and walked out of the house . Nervously , Leo sat behind an enormous rock , trying not to be seen by the killers . Then , the giant man came closer , he looked at the police and Leo ’ s friends and the policemen stood up , took out their guns and pointed them at the man . In the meantime , Leo was observing the house . There were only two persons left
