immersed herself in the different types of the old Shanghai songs , French music , Jazz and Western operas . It was not surprising that Ms . Qing Wa is now a world renowned opera singer , and she has been invited to perform at the opening ceremony of Shanghai Disneyland .
4 . The Tale of Ms . Lai Ha Mou
Lai Ha Mou ’ s story was short and tragic . From a young age , she was always vain for caring about her appearance . After departing from her friends , she finally found out that she was a toad but not a frog . She saw her lame gait , warts and wrinkled skin in a mirror . She became so obsessed with her looks that as soon as she had the chance , she brought herself to have plastic surgery . The operation was unfortunately a failure and resulted in her tragic death . Alas , beauty is only skin deep .
Ahh , do you think it was a bit abrupt ? Well , actually our story hasn ’ t finished . In Chinese culture , the frog is a symbol of life , fertility and transformation . Shanghai , like our froggy friends , had endured , changed and grown through the years .
Today we are celebrating the opening of Shanghai Disneyland .
Look , can you see our old friends on stage ? Grenoille , who is the owner of Shanghai Disneyland ; Henry , who is the script writer of the story of Frog Prince and Ms . Qing Wa , who is the lead performing artist for the opening ceremony .
Our story ends when our three friends reunited for the first time in decades . They grieved for their lost friend and shared stories of their experiences , yet the essence of their success was the same .
Old Shanghai , the city that invented Chinese capitalism , once characterized by the Jazz Age skyline that dominated the Bund and the neon lights that illuminated the Broadway of the East , has slowly given way to New
Shanghai , answering her call of destiny to be the global gateway city and financial center .
Yet beneath the towering skyscrapers and the glittering signboards , pieces of Old Shanghai remain – in the turn of the century buildings , in the hidden street corners and in the heart of its people .
So this is Shanghai – a city which we love for being both OLD and NEW at the same time .
