The Wong Family St. Margaret's Co-Educational English Secondary and Primary School, Kwong, Leann – 9 A fter dinner, the Wong family were watching television. They were on the history channel. The news reporter was asking the old grandma what exactly happened in Old Shanghai, Long Ping. The old grandma replied: “There was a war during 1096 which lasted for 169 days. We lost because the soldiers were too few, around 10 people. So, all the grown-up men were forced to fight and were not all trained (or not fully trained) still around 80 people. It was terrible living back then.” “Let’s continue soon and have a break!” “DAN DI DAN” “cough cough nothing can cure a cold, except the throat lozenge…” Then the Wong family started discussing what they had just seen. Brother Trevvy learned so much about Old Shanghai and knows more about China. And sister Sally thinks that she wants to go to Shanghai and explore herself. Dad replied, “But, it is only a broken park, now.” “DAN DI DAN, now back to Long Ping.” “Let’s continue” The Wongs stopped talking and concentrated on the TV. “It was one of the biggest wars back then. My house was near so I could hear the banging spears and the breaking of things that fell. I could not sleep because I was fearful that “father” would die and it was too noisy. “Mother” did not eat, drink or rest and I never saw her again. I lost my parents. Hm! Hm! The old grandma said. “So you are a lost girl?” the curious reporter asked the old grandma. The crying the old grandma answered, “Yes!”
