Chapter 1
A full moon rose above the horizon , as stealth imperial warriors swiftly slid out of their hiding places , ready for their ambush on the night patrol of revolutionary soldiers .
A few soldiers were wandering around the sleek grey palisade , anticipating for an attack . The night patrols have already encountered a few ambushes by imperialists who escaped to Japan and returned . But they weren ' t ready for an ambush like the one they were about to encounter …
Suddenly , an imperial warrior burst from one of the bushes and pinned a patrol to the ground . Other patrolling soldiers were rushing to the attacker , unaware of the danger around them . Before they could even reach the attacker , a band of imperial warriors knocked the other patrols down and began a battle . From out of the shadows , a man in a dark robe came and looked down on the patrols . It was the old emperor Bao Tong , who was forced out of his throne because the people revolted against him and he escaped to Japan . And now , he wants his power back …
Chapter 2
The Mayor of Shanghai Do Shang was sitting in his office knitting . Suddenly , his servant came and said :“ we have a vis- ” but before he could finish speaking , the doors flew open and a man with a blood red cloak came in and said :“ Mayor Do , I want to give you a piece of advice . You should let the old emperor Bao Tong take back his throne . Otherwise , he will take over Shanghai . When he becomes the Shanghai mayor , he will take over the whole of China and seize city by city ”. There was an uneasy silence . Suddenly , Do Shang said :“ You ' re a fool , you don ’ t know how powerful Shanghai is ”. The visitor then boomed : “ well , in that case , prepare for your city to be destroyed ”. Then , the man swung his head around and left , shaking his head . After the mysterious messenger left , the mayor turned to his guards and boomed : “ prepare for an attack from Japan , and beware of peasants who want Bao Tong to come back . Look out for Bao ’ s supporters . And after that , he swung his head and went to the podium , thinking deeply of how to block Bao ’ s attack .
Suddenly , he saw an army of imperial warriors heading towards the palisade . “ This is a disgrace !” Do Shang screamed looking down at his scattered and unprepared revolutionary soldiers .“ Get in line ! Get ready to defend the city . Bao Tong ’ s army is about to attack !” shouted Do . But his soldiers ran around like a flock of headless chickens . Before the soldiers were prepared , there was a loud crash on the door , then another , then the door cracked like a toothpick and Bao ’ s army rushed in . There was a loud sound of laughter , and a man in a dark robe came out of a carriage , it was Bao Tong ! “ So everyone has scattered ,” crackled Bao , “ This has been easier than I thought ”. “ Not as you think would be ”, said Do . “ Oh , Do Shang ”, laughed Bao . “ Fine . Armies , attack ”! It was a dangerous and daring battle . As the imperialists battled the revolutionaries . Swords were being thrown in the air , blood splattered around . Peasants who supported Bao Tong joined in the fight . From the sky , drops of rain began to pour down , and fog blocked all sight . When the fog drew away , Do ’ s army was outnumbered . They decided to retreat , and Do had to surrender . Bao ’ s army won the battle thanks to the support of his loyal peasants . But only one imperial warrior remains alive . Xia Wei once served in the emperor ' s court , and the peasants named him “ the last warrior ”. Bao Tong was excited to become mayor . But he had to go back to Japan to share his victory with his host . As Bao returned to his ship , Xia , the last warrior appeared and asked Bao what to do . Bao thought : “ this man went to Japan with me and saw what a coward I was , I should get rid of him ”. Bao eventually said , “ I hear you ’ ve been spreading rumours about me . You are a traitor . Guards , kill him !”. Before the guards could get him , Xia jumped ship and sped towards the nearest forest . Bao said :“ don ’ t worry , he ’ s heading towards the forest , he might get eaten by a tiger ”. And with that , he turned around and left .
