“ This old man must have worked for the whole day !” thought James . He saw George running towards the rickshaw and followed .
“ Can we help you ?” asked George in Shanghainese . Magically , the two boys knew how to speak Shanghainese ! The old man thought that they were very helpful , so he nodded his head .
“ Where do you want to go ?” James asked the passengers in English .
“ We want to go to the Temple of City God .” replied one of the foreigners . They were amazed that James could speak English so well . George remembered the map in the exhibition hall and knew how to get to the destination . The two boys finally pulled the rickshaw to the Temple of City God where the passengers got off . They were paid very well .
“ Wow ! The dollar bill is very big ! It looks like our exam paper !” said James . George gave all the money to the poor old man , but the old man insisted to share half of the money with them . They said goodbye to the man . For the first time , they saw that they were wearing crude Chinese clothes instead of T-shirt and trousers .
“ Phew , all that pulling made me exhausted .” said James , “ Let ’ s eat !” They headed towards a local restaurant at the side of the street . “ Let ’ s try the famous Shanghai dumplings !” replied George . They saw the chef inside the kitchen making the dumplings and find them very attractive . “ The dumplings smell very good !” said James . “ They are very delicious too !” said George after they finished the whole dish . After lunch , they walked around the streets . There were many tea-houses , money shops and small grocery shops on the streets . James decided to buy two Chinese hats . The shape of the hats was conical , and they looked like the hats that Chinese farmers used . Soon , George and James began to wonder how they could get back to the museum . “ How did we get here ? Maybe we can use the same way to get back ,” said James . “ While I was looking at the picture , I said that I wish to visit Old Shanghai and then we were here !” replied George . James thought hard . Suddenly , an idea struck him . “ I wish we could go back to the history museum ,” James said . The place began to spin . James and George felt dizzy again and they both shut their eyes .
Everything was quiet . George immediately opened his eyes . Had he dreamed what had just happened ? He stared at the two children in the picture . Suddenly , he realized that the two characters in the picture were themselves ! “ Wow ! We are in the picture !” said George . “ Come and look , James !” James opened his eyes too . He looked at the picture , and was surprised to see George and himself in it . They both took off their hats and put them in their bags . They noticed that they were no longer wearing Chinese clothes but T-shirts and trousers . “ I thought history was boring before this field trip but now I think it is fun ! This trip to the history museum is the best field trip ever .” said James . “ History is always fun !” George smiled .
