The legend of mermaids Marymount Primary School, Cheung, Sophia - 11 I sat on the street watching the citizens pass by. I can see everything happen everywhere. I have an important role to play. I need to give out oxygen to let humans breathe. Day by day, I sat on the street and at a particular time, I see the same thing. I see a girl riding a bike and behind, there sat her father. I have the ability to tell that her father is disabled. Well, you can ask about her mother. But I can tell you that her mother died in the Second World War as she was caught to be the food of the citizens. They adored and missed her. Her father lost his foot as he was also brought on the butcher’s table and when they first cut his leg, he escaped by using a knife and killed the butchers. When she looked back at his wife, she was dead as they had taken her bones, muscles and anything else possible. They earned a living by working hard. Her father was a scientist before, but because his wife passed away, his boss discriminated him and fired him. He thought it wasn’t fair but arguing wasn’t effective in the old days, so they went to being a dish washer. Even though it was hard to earn a living like that, they still kept on going every day, I saw the little girl using all her energy on riding the bike she owned to bring her father and help him. Unfortunately one day, she was finally too tired and fell on the ground. I tried to help her but it was no use! I tried to do everything I could think of, but still not effective. She still stood up without anyone’s help, she didn’t even care about her bleeding foot, she just ran to her father who laid on the floor and helped him by her only tissue pack and dried his blood on his hand. Everyone around just looked at them in silent. Why are humans so inconsiderate? A year passed, two years, the third year, on the ninth day of the March, I saw a peculiar sight, an extraordinary sight! Well, what is it? I saw the man on the wheel-chair, rolling by himself! What happened? What happened to the little girl? I was shocked! I was conscious! I was afraid! What happened to her? I really wanted to know! The days passed really fast for me and it is now Christmas. But I’m pretty sure the days passed slowly for that poor father on the wheel chair! Still, I called my alien friends to check out Shanghai! It is fun for sure! I made a hole to let them to live in! At the same time, I will ask them to use some of their energy to check what happened to the little girl. So I typed on the keyboard in the hidden place of my roots, ’Bonjour amis extraterrestres! Je vous invite à mon pays d'origine, C'est shanghai.’ They replied in a second, it said, ‘Vous habitez à shanghai? Vous devriez parler la langue de Shanghai? Tu parle français’ Well, they said about that because I was borned in here but my nationality is French. So that’s why. I am a buttonwoodtree! It is quite obvious! So I told them that I would reply when they come. Then, they sent an ok sign. They finally came two days later. They are actually like doraemon, but with a scarier face. So I introduced them to different places and played and goofed around! They had so much fun! So, after two days, I told them what all the fuzz was about the days before. I begged them to help me out about what happened. They said that they needed to think about it for a while… I hoped, prayed, that they’ll say yes. But because of the sudden news from their planet, they refused. So I thought and thought and thought for a way to ask her father. The days passed slowly and the same sight came going on and on and on and on and on and on…
